Unlikely that anyone would want to leave this beautiful
country...But I have a friend who wants to move to the US
for a extended stay..She is a professional lady.She's a
nurse
Will any of you who have lived and worked in the US.. please
tell me if it is easy to get a job...without a green card.
How hard is it to get a green card?
Are the yanks all that bad?

Just don't join her in the US, we don't need any close
    minded biggots.

That should be "we don't need any more closed minded
    biggots here."

Jobs in the US vary upon where you go, and what it is that
you plan on doing. You'll find that people are generally
people wherever you go. Most of the bad hype of Americans
is way out of portion. They are usually your average
boring person. Your friend should have no problem finding
a job as a nurse, although it does not pay over there as a
well as it does here. Your chances are much, MUCH higher
on finding a good job if you have a green card. With the
economy booming as it is in the US they have more jobs then
people in most parts of the country. The problem is that
some parts of the country have a very high cost of living
and most of the jobs they have are lower paying. You need
to find a place that pays well enough to support the kind
of lifestyle that you wish to live. I could be more help
if I knew where in the US you had planned on living, and
what it is that you planned on doing.

I will be arriving in Sydney from England in the second
week of June and would like to get in touch with any other
lone travellers to hook up with.

That not all yanks are that bad. I personally know one who
is the best. He needs to be kept in line though...can get a
    little wild.
Your friend needs help from someone over there to assist her
in these things. Maybe some yank could get some info from
the nurses board in the US & post it to her. I think that
    would be a good start.

  6. Green Card Added by: Matt (mattlovenz@hotmail.com)

I would say that your friends chances of getting a job as a
nurse without a green-card would be impossible. As far as
other jobs go your odds of getting any kind of work without
one is fairly slim. Like anywhere you can often find work
with people that are self employed, very small companies,
nanny work, gardening, construction and things like that but
for the most part it is very hard to find any work without a
    green-card.

I have seen companies advertising in Sydney papers that
place nurses in jobs in the US. I presume that they would
assist with arranging visas, etc, similar to the Camp
America or Camp Counselors programs. I don't remember any
other details about them but maybe your friend could keep a
look out for the ads. A scheme like this is usually a good
    place to start.
By the way, no, the yanks aren't all that bad. I should
    know-I married one!
