  1. Cycling across Australia Added by: al humphreys (a.j.humphreys@sms.ed.ac.uk)

I plan to cycle from Darwin to Cape York in 2000. I intend
to cycle through the desert (inc Canning Stock Route) to
Alice Springs and then on to Cape York
I need info from anyone about cycling or the Outback in
general. Specific problems include water, food, tents and
    navigation (GPS)
Please e-mail me if you can help at all or even if you want
    to say I am crazy!

    Come off it man!
I'm really getting sick of all the working visa posts on
the Thorn Tree! All the info you need comes with the
application form or you can even call the Oz embassy,
there's a recording telling you exactly what you must
include. Yes, it costs per minute but if you can get 2,500
together I think you can afford it! Good luck anyway.

    yes
    yes
    yes
I only gave them one photo, and it was fine. Make sure you
put your name on the back and sign it.
You must send your passport, as the visa is actually a
sticker that they stick in it.
Send a bank statement saying that you have at least ú2000
    in the bank
As for any other information, see my post above your last,
    called
    "I got my visa!"
Some other people have replied and they give good advice,
especially for us wrinkly old travellers who are 26 or over.
    Good luck
    Jackie
