My wife and I are travelling to South Africa at eh end of
1999-early 2000. She is South African, but she has not been
back in a couple of years. We need to find a company that
can rent us a vehicle for 1-2 months that is not going to
break our budget. We have seen a couple of companies
prices, but so far we are very afraid of the prices even
though the Rand is so reasonable compared to our currency.
Any information would be great. Thanks alot. One last
thing. We are thinking of doing a tour from Cape Town to
Victoria Falls through Namibia etc. How was it? What are
the prices to fly back to Cape Town??
Thanks Again Everyone

    www.travelinafrica.co.za
check it out. on the links page, there should be a site
called "Backpacking in africa" or something, and on that
site, you'll get all the info for renting vehicles in SA.
They're pretty cheap, around R170/d or so.

My husband and I are also doing the same trip as yourselves
and are both South African. Our plan is to fly into Joburg
and buy a car there from a car dealer with an agreement of
repurchase at a discounted price. We've known people that
have done this before and it works out much cheaper than
    renting.

I'm planning on flying into SA in june and buying a 4WD for
3 months and then selling it at the start of october. If
any of you are interested in buying the car after i have it
let me know. Im thinking of buying a vehicle in the R20,000
    - 30,000 range and i'm happy to lose R5,000 for the use of
    it for 3 months.

  5. buy with a buy back guarentee Added by: Flip

I bought a car in 97, drove it for 8 (eight) weeks and 6000
km and sold it back to the car dealer, with a loss of 3000
rands. Figure out the price per day yourself. Add a few
days to get the paperwork done, and the insurance.
