Start your malaria pills in June. Visit a bookstore. Get
your shots. It's not safe, so send me your credit card
details now! Change your hair color from blonde.

  3. East Africa is Amazing Added by: Kim Beard (Kim.Beard@sympatico.ca)

    Dear Traveller,
I have had the privilege of travelling throughout parts of
Kenya on two different occasions. It is an amazing
experience filled with warm friendly people, amazing wild
life, beautiful and diverse scenery and incredible history.
However, I would recommend the following:
    (1) Arrange for your malarial medication and shots
    (2) Be very careful in Nairobi, known affectionately as
'Nairobberi'. Pre book your hotel here and take a taxi
to it, being careful not to walk alone at night, outside
    your hotel.
    (3) Contact a good travel agent in Nairobi to arrange a
safari. I have used Lets Go Travel on Standard Street
and they offer a variety of priced tours and safaris.
    contact them at: Eric@letsgosafari.co.ke
    (3a) Dress conservatively
(3b) Drink only bottled water, beer or soft drinks.
(3c) Don't accept any food or drinks from strangers
especially on buses because of drugging.
(3d) Do try and make friends with Kenyans in the rural
areas who serve wonderful Japaties, Uhgali, and
    goat.
(3e) DON'T TRAVEL AT NIGHT BY BUS IF YOU VALUE YOUR LIFE.
    (4) I would highly recommend the following places to visit
after first having read: A Rough Guide to Kenya, and
The Lonely Planet Guide to Kenya.
    (a) A safari to Masi Mara
    (b) Travel by overnight train from Nairobi to Mombasa
    (c) If you have the energy climb Mt. Kenya with a guide.
    (d) If you have time a group trip to Lake Turkana
    (e) In Nairobi visit the National Museum, Snake Park
one of the two universities, etc. Visit the
Carnivore Restaurant, with a proper guide visit
some of the development projects in the poorer areas
    of Nairobi such as Korogocho.
    (f) Lamu, Mombasa (Fort Jesus), Diani Beach or another
South Coast resort area. Do a Dhow trip from the
South Coast beach area to the Wasini National
    Water Park for snorkling etc.
    (g) Zanzibar
    (h) Visit the Kakamega Rainforest in Western Kenya.
I hope these suggestions are helpful.
Have a wonderful time in East Africa.
    Kim

    Hi,
I am also going for July and August to both countries...I
especially want to go up Mt. Kilamanjaro and Mt. Kenya. As
to courier flights.....why not check the airfare with El Al
airlines...they have great deals, and they do not raise
fares for the summer. I also will be travelling alone...good
to hear I am not the only one.

in addition to el al - ethiopian airlines has pretty cheap
prices, and you can stop over in addis ababa for free
(sorry, don't know if they fly out of canada)
i was in kenya in 96 and i'm going back this summer. nairobi
is safe if you're careful. i had my watch ripped off my arm
in the center of the city center in the afternoon. not
really a huge deal, i was fine. but be very careful.
go to lamu, kenya if you can - especially if you're in the
mood for relaxing. it's wonderful, and cheap (but spend the
money and fly there from nairobi/mombasa/malindi)
i took a safari with savuka. very cheap and very good.
if you have extra time, take a nissan up to nyahururu or
maralal for a day or two. maralal is up towards the north.
they have an annual camel derby there. in nyahururu you
    can see thompson's falls - and there's a runner's camp there
too. they're nice little off the beaten path places.
have fun!!! email me if you have more questions!

Make sure you stop off in Uganda. It was the highlight of
my trip and at lot of people miss it out. I am blonde and
received a lot of attention, but this was great because you
will as a result meet more people and at no time did I feel
    in danger.
