Hey there!
I'm using the latest LP East Africa (1997 edition)to plan
our trip to Kenya & Zanzibar. If you've been there very
recently and had this book with you, how up to date are the
prices? I'm mainly interested in transportation costs,
particularily for airfare from Mombasa to Zanzibar, ferry
(fast) from Zanzibar to Dar, & flight from Dar to Nairobi.
Are the hotel prices in the book OK? Thanks for any help
you can send my way.

In march 1998 it cost me about รบ80 to get a flight from
Zanzibar to Nairobi, via mombassa. I booked about 4 days in
advance, at a travel agents in Zanzibar.
FLIGHTS FROM MOMBASA - ZANZIBAR ARE US$84 INCLUSIVE DEP
TAX.
THE FERRY COSTS US$30 ON MON/THUR/FRI/SUN

A lot depends on when you'll be there--high or low season.
I was in the region in March and April. The fast (1+
hours) ferry b/w Dar and Zanzibar costs $25 one way, which
included the port tax. This was the same price as the
slower ferry, but they had to lower prices during the low
season. I believe there was one ferry that costs $30 as
well.
As far as airfare goes, I flew Zanzibar to Nairobi with a
stop in Mombasa for $139 on Kenya Airways. I bought it
about 2 days before I flew, and was able to change the
departure date easily and w/o cost.
how are are you doing ange, source of of the nile?
I just came back from a trip that took me through kenya and
zanzibar. One important piece of information: The ferry from
mombasa to zanzibar has been discontinued(indefinetly).
Costs are 10-15% higher than stated in the 1997 Kenya LP.
