Any information on Mali would be appreciated...I can't find
much in the way of guidebooks. Thinking about going for New
Year's 2000.

    countries.

    Unfortunately, Mali was the first African country I went
    to, and I've got to admit it wasn't easy. Aside from the
    uniqueness of Dogon country, all you'll get is about a
    billion hassles from would-be guides. Certainly not much of
    a place to relax and feel part of the culture. Try the
    coast of Cote d'Ivoire for pure pleasure and integration
    that you can handle without a guide...
