Harare: guesthouse and luggage storage?

I have heard good things about Possum Lodge and It's a
Small World in Harare. Has anyone stayed at either of these
places or are there other recommendations on accomodation?
I'm mainly concerned about finding a safe place to stay and
a trustworthy place to leave my big bag while I am doing a
side trip to Vic Falls. Any advice is appreciated.

I just returned from Africa last week. In Harare I stayed
at Possum Lodge and I recommend it. It's only 20 min. walk
from downtown. You can camp there for US$2.50 or rent a bed
in a dorm for $5. They serve inexpensive breakfast($1) and
dinner($4). It's a safe and friendly place and has a good
bulletin board too. There is a computer with Internet
access for $1/15 min. The outdoor bar is always a good
place to meet fellow travellers and locals and the bber is
cheap ($0.50!!!). It's usually very lively 'till late
night. The management try to squeeze the locals out by
charging them the price of one night stay to enter. As of
last week it didn't really work.
It's a great place I met good friends there and had a
    really fun time there.

I agree with the above - I stayed at Possum Lodge too and
was impressed (and I've seen a lot of hostels). Have a great
    trip

First thanks for the great info. Do you have the email
address for Possum Lodge? Do you know if they do airport
pick-ups? Also, how about the price for a single room?
    ~
Tom, you mentioned that Possum is 20 mins walk to downtown
Harare - do you think it is okay for a single woman to walk
around during the day or am I better off only taking taxis?
I just don't know what Harare is like and don't know if the
crime rate is anything like Nairobi AKA Nairobbery. (I've
been to Zimbabwe before, but only Vic Falls, which was no
problem when I was there 4 years ago).

Unfortunately I don't have email address for the lodge.
They don't do airport pickup, the taxi should cost around
US$3. Although I love Nairobi and I never had any problem
there, but Harare is safer. You can safely walk to town
(the lodge is on a bussy main road)They said there were
some mugging incidents in the past at night so if you're
alone just take a taxi. From downtown it sould be around $2
the most. I walked around a lot by myself at night as well
as together with a girl and we never ran into any problem.
    (I spent a week there)
As for single room, I don't think they have it. I know they
had some doubles ($8), but they often booked in advance. I
had to camp for a few days before I could move in a dorm.
Your best bet is to call them a few days before and make
reservation. Let me know if I can help anything else.
