Hello everybody,
I'm heading for Morocco these summer holidays and I'm
searching all over to find some good informations.
Usually attracted by the deep countryside of an country, I
feel intersted this time to visit some cities like Fes and
Marrakesh, which are also very interesting for the culture
of Morocco. Please give me some informations about the
cities to visit and what to visit, about the Atlas
Mountains and some hikes in it or any trip in the desert,
and some advices to know if the people that side are used
to host a traveller in their own homes.
Thanks.
Simon.

I travelled in Morocco mainly in the countryside, but I can
recommend Fes and Marrakech, as well as Essaouira, which is
a wonderful seaside town, a great place to finish a trip and
    relax.
I've also been to Rissani, Merzouga, Todra Gorge, Jebel
Sarhro, and Jebel Toubkal, all are quite well known and I'm
sure You'll have no problems finding info about them.
Along the touristy route you'll find cheap accommodation
everywhere. Sometimes you may be invited to stay with a
local family, but I think that this might not be exactly an
authentic experience. However, in the less toured parts
(such as Jebel Sarhro), the hospitality is genuine and
wonderful (they even refused to accept money when I
    offered).
I think I saw some useful info at:

I spent a great deal of time last fall in Marrakesh, and I
definitely would not recommend to spend more than 2-3 days
tops in that city. Get out into the countryside as soon as
possible. The area of the high Atlas is quite spectacular,
and there is some great trekking in the area of Jebel
Toubkal. Try to see the Dades Gorges or the Todra Gorge,
especially early in the morning. These areas are especially
good if you are into rock climbing. I stayed in a little
Auberge in Ait Oudinar (Auberge des gorges du dades, which
    was fairly reasonable.
About Essaouira-great seaside town, very clean but typically
touristy stuff to be had....if you want a true medina
experience, do that in Marrakesh. There is great surfing and
windsurfing to be had on the beaches south of Essaouira -
Sidi Kaouki is the name of the beach (and if you have heard
of the Eco-Challenge race, which is why I was in Morocco-
this beach is the site of the beginning of the kayaking leg
of the 500 km adventure race).
    Good Luck
    Joanne/Canada
