My parents (both aged in their mid fifites) are looking for
any feedback from people who have been to Zanzibar, such as
must see things, things to avoid, all to usual stuff. They
are going to east africa in mid august and will probably
only have a few days to spend in Zanzibar. Their budget is
in the mid to high range (a bit vague I know).

Mid fifties stopped being considered aged quite a while ago!
At the rate we're going, they are probably just over the
    half-way point.

If they are spending a couple of days only in Zanzibar and
dont object to spending around $200 a night, then there can
be no better place than The Serena in Zanzibar itself. They
can lay on all the tours for you and the service and hotel
    is something really special.

I thought that the Tembo Hotel in Stonetown was nicer than
the Serena. It is still pretty upmarket but more in
keeping with the island. They could also consider Breezes
Beach Resort on the East Coast. I met an older British
couple who had been there and said that it was very smart.

at the Old Fort (on the sea front in the stone town) there
are evening displays of tribal music and dance combined with
a traditional meal. I'm afraid I can't remember the exact
details, but it was well advertised. Definatly worth the
    trip.
