My favorite is el Hussein right in the middle of the
Islamic quarter. It's fairly clean with a very friendly
staff, though it's a long way from 2-3 star. However, it's
a great way to know Egypt. bob

I stayed at the Magic Hotel which is on El Burstan near the
Nile Hilton and the museum. It is very central and a great
place. Clean, safe and with helpful English speaking
staff. There is a large common area for meeting other
travellers. It is not 2-3 star though. There are no en-
suite rooms but lots of clean bathrooms with hot water. It
cost us 40E pounds per night including breakfast. It is on
the 3rd floor of the building but has a reception desk on
    the ground floor.
