"America" is a land mass made up of two continents and
dozens of sovereign nations. It is not a country.
There is already a long-lived string just like this in
"your choice" with 450+ responses, and someone who tallies
them by country every now and then.
Now hiding out in Provincetown, Mass. (one of those
sovereign nations mentioned above).
"America" also referred to as the United States of America
is a Country. Also, the citizens of the U.S. as well as
citizens of the world only refer "America" by itself to the
United States. Not Canada,Mexico and the various countries
of South and Central America. As old songs goes, "God Bless
America", as in the U.S. Also, the two continents are called
North America and South America. If you refer to it as
America by itself then it would seem like there is only one
continent instead of the two distinguished by the North and
South. North America is made up of the Countries Canada,
U.S, and Mexico hence NAFTA - the North America Free Trade
Agreement, and countries of Central America which connects
this continent to the South American continent which also
consist of various of countries. Now, if you use it in a
plural context ie. "AMERICAS" then you can argue the point
of it being a large land mass made up of two continents as
the term is more broad. Country is defined as a nation or
state; land. Are we not a nation made up of
individual states which equals a country.
By the way, I am from West "By God" Virginia, but currently
living in the Washington, D.C. area
