Eye laser therapy

I can't seem to get on TTYC so I am asking it here. This
year I am heading off on my OE for a few years and because
I wear disposable contact lenses I am thinking about
getting the laser surgery that will correct my sight all
together. Contacts lenses are a pain in the bum when
traveling. Has anyone had this surgery? Good /bad
experience?

As I understand it, if your eyes are 'stable' - ie. you are
not still having to increase your prescription - then you
can consider it. However, I know of one person who went in
-4 and came out +4. Bummer for them. I also know 2 people
who have put away contacts for good.

If you got the money-do it. I made the surgery a year ago
only for the fact that I wanted to start the Swedish police
academy. The surgery was painfull, but it┤s definitely worth
it. Looking forward to next trip-without lenses.

i also was thinking about laser surgery, but are not sure
    of the cost?
I found out how much it would cost me for daily contact and
    well i was shocked 360.00.
So i hope you get it done, it thats what you want.
I would like to know how you get on.
    Best of luck

In RUSSIA, and that is not even a joke, they started these
operations, and they are very famous for the quality and
prices in their clinics there. I even consider having it
    done there myself.

I had one I done - my vision deteritorated since I was 7
years old. I was -7 and -6.5 and worse it is the lower
chance you have of it going well.
I was lucky my medical insurance covered my completely
    although now it does not.
I wore contacts Eurailing thru Europe in '91 and it was so
much hassle esp on overnight trains as I'm so blind without
    glasses/contacts.
I wa planning to backpack for a year thru Asia so I knew I
couldn't do that with all the lotions etc in my pack as well
    as general inconvenience
The operation was 10 minutes and I went home, took
painkillers and slept for 2 days. On monday morning I went
back and doctor took the patch off and it was very blurry.
Used eyedrops over 3 months and vision was perfect.
A couple of years ago I got the other eye done and both have
been a success and it truly has changed my life. Only
problem is my eyes dry out a lot.
If you have really bad vision like I did then I say go for
it. If the worst comes to the worst... well thats a decision
you have to make as your eyes are so precious.
Its one of the best things in my life that I did!
Good luck and let me know iff you have any questions

One of my best friends had surgery in Australia 12 months
ago and she has not had any problems. Her eyesight has
improved, may I say?, out of sight!
