The usual place to start from is Roncevalles on the
French/Spanish border, and you would need about 30 days to
Santiago, as you say. There are other classic starting
points in France, but you'll double the time needed I
suppose. If you want to do the route in less time ( two
weeks ) cycling is an option, especially now that mountain
bikes let you follow the same route as the walkers. There
are quite a few French do it on mtb's. I'm planning to do
it this way in September. Apparently some people do it on
    horseback.
Tap " El Camino de Santiago " into your search engine and
see what comes up. If you speak French, search using
"St.Jaques de Compostelle", you'll find plenty of
    information, maps,history etc.
A good site to start with, in English, is

    Good luck

The Camino of Santiago is a fantastic experience.... But. I am really not sure about making the Camino this year, because is "Ano Santo" : there should be a great among of pilgrams, but, maybe it could also interesting, in the other hand, you can have trouble with accomodation, and tranquility.... If you want some information, look for: http://www.xacobeo.es; http://www.geocities.com/Yosemite/2015/index.html. Here you will find many other links related with the Camino!
Good luck! Let me know when you are making it
