Vahines in a pirogue, French Polynesia - In October I was invited to speak at a tourism conference on board the ship Club Med II. Soon after we dropped anchor in Cook’s Bay, Moorea, one morning the ship was surrounded by traditional pirogues (outrigger canoes), just as if they were welcoming Cook on the Endeavour.
