Bart's Tour
The Historic Bart's & Smithfield Guided Tour takes place every summer Friday starting at 2pm from the main gateway of St Bartholomew's Hospital. The walk, led by a member of the City of London Guide Lecturers Association, costs ú4 with proceeds going to Bart's Heritage Appeal.

Betjeman Celebration
An evening of readings presented by the Betjeman Society is being held at St Bartholomew-the-Less in Smithfield on Saturday 6 July at 7pm in aid of The Friends of The City Churches. John Betjeman lived nearby in Cloth Fair. Programmes ú8 are available by sending a large sae with a cheque (payable 'The Betjeman Society') to The Secretary, Well Cottage, Spring Lane, Longburton, Sherborne DT9 5PB.

An Evening at St Sepulchre's
The Friends Of The City Churches are holding the first of a series of soirΘes at St Sepulchre-without-Newgate, the Musicians' Church, on Wednesday 17 July at 5.30pm. Bryan Evans, former Pavilion Opera musical director, is giving a piano recital at 6pm. This will be followed by an opportunity to look around the church with experts who will give informal talks on the architecture, glass, woodwork and monuments. The magnificent peel of bells will be rung at the close of the evening. Lunchtime River Race
The annual Doggett's Coat and Badge Race, a sculling race, will be rowed from London Bridge to Chelsea on Thursday 18 July starting at 12.15pm. This is the oldest annually contested event in Britain's sporting calendar.

Bach Festival
A celebration of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach is being held at St Anne & St Agnes Lutheran Church in Gresham Street EC2 from 21 to 28 July. The dates embrace St Anne's Day on 26 July and the anniversary of Bach's death in 1750 on 28 July . The programme includes the traditional Bach Vespers as well as Jazz Vespers featuring jazz interpretations of Bach's music. Historic Churches Open
St Sepulchre Holborn Viaduct, opposite Old Bailey is open on Wednesdays 12 noon to 2pm and St Mary Aldermary in Bow Lane is open on Thursdays 11am to 3pm. Admission is free. Neither church has regular services.

St Magnus Restored
The re-decoration of St Magnus Church, damaged by fire last year, is now complete and lunchtime services are once more being held in the nave. The church, opposite The Monument, is open Tuesdays to Fridays 10.30am to 4pm.
