Gamma-ray Detectors

Gamma-ray detection in the energy region above 1 keV involves the measurement of the energy exchange between the incident photon and the mass of the detector. In most cases, it is the kinetic energy imparted to charged particles by the gamma-ray which is lost in the detector and measured in order to obtain knowledge of the incident source spectrum.

Imagine the Universe is a service of the High Energy Astrophysics Science Archive Research Center (HEASARC), Dr. Nicholas White (Director), within the Laboratory for High Energy Astrophysics at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center.
