Is the Sun one of the hottest stars in space?
The Answer
No, the Sun is pretty middle of the road in terms of both size and
temperature. The hottest stars are blue-white in color, and have surface
temperatures of greater than 50,000 degrees Kelvin. The coolest are red
and have surface temperatures of less than 4000 degrees Kelvin. The Sun
is yellow and has a surface temperature of about 6000 degrees Kelvin.
All stars are much hotter at their centers, however.
