Ask a High-Energy Astronomer

The Question

(Submitted March 08, 1998)

How fast can we travel in Space?

The Answer

The Cassini probe heading toward Saturn will reach speeds of 5.2 kilometers per second (11,700 mph). That gives you a rough idea of the types of velocities that we can obtain.

Hope this helps,
Jeff Silvis
