HT Cas

HT Cas is a binary system which emits X-rays. It has been observed with the ASCA satellite, from which astrophysicists have determined the following about HT Cas:

  • It involves a smaller star that is a white dwarf and a larger star that is nonetheless smaller than the Sun (the size of the larger star should make sense, once you have made your calculations).
  • This system has an inclination of 83 degrees. A 90 degrees inclination system would be one where the smaller star traverses the central star exactly in the middle, providing some evidence that it exhibits a Total Eclipse) in its light curve.
  • It's orbital velocity is 390 km/sec.
