Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory Experiments
Burst and Transient Source Experiment (BATSE): which studies fast-changing
sources like gamma-ray
bursts, over a wide field of view.
Oriented Scintillation Spectrometer Experiment (OSSE): a pointable
instrument with a narrow field-of-view, to allow focusing on transient
sources found by BATSE.
Imaging Compton Telescope (Comptel): which produces gamma-ray
images of the
sky.
Energetic Gamma-Ray Experiment Telescope (EGRET): which points at the same
part of the sky as Comptel does, taking measurements of photon energy and
path.
The CGRO continues to operate today, and is producing large amounts of
data which are being used to improve our understanding of the high-energy
processes in our universe.
