Saw Different
07 Apr 2000 08:00 EST

Makita has taken to color coding some of their latest tools for easy identification on the job. Their new line of cordless circular saws come in three flavors--the 5026 wood saw has a blue dust collector, the 5036 cuts fiber materials and cement and has a purple dust collector, and the 5046 metal saw sports a yellow dust collector.

Makita also has a new pair of circular saws designed to cut HardiPlank, a fiber-cement siding product. They come with clear dust collectors.

You may laugh but this is actually the most constructive use of translucent plastics you'll see anywhere. Most "fruity" computer designs are style-driven, though there are surely instances where identification is made easier by the color of a machine or peripheral. The argument can be made, however, that this circular saw application is purely meant for workers to easily identify different tools without actually having to pick them up and look. Now that's a breakthrough.
