Striking Portable Workstation
14 Mar 2000 09:54 EST

As Intrigo Inc. gears up for the April splashdown of its Lapstation line of transportable computer workstations, Market Development Director Chad Berman tells Go2Mac that good things are in store for the tiny company. Berman says they've been talking to major manufacturers like Dell and Hewlett-Packard, working to develop a complete line of accessories to help grow the product.

Intrigo's partnership with world class product development firm RKS Design, has resulted in a very striking solution for the fast-growing mobile computing market.

The Lapstation, winner of this year's Innovation 2000 Award at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, was born of a need to, "free portable computer users from traditional office environments, allowing them to use their laptops while seated in bed, on the couch, on the floor or outdoors."

Ravi Sawhney, President of RKS and Co-founder of Intrigo, explains, "We went through 10 design iterations to enable the Lapstation to adapt to settings as flat as a bed or as uneven as a grassy hill in the park."

The Lapstation will initially ship in three forms.

The US$99 B1 is dark blue with neoprene wrist pads. The US$139 B2 is translucent blue with neoprene wrist pads and mesh pouches. The US$189 B3 sports a titanium finish with gel-filled wrist pads and mesh Pouches.

Berman says that other colors will probably be on hold for at least six months to a year as the company ramps up production of the initial line of products. He commented on the Mac user's fondness for fruit flavors and sleek industrial design, and says that different colors are probably in store for future versions of the product.

We think the Titanium finish will be particularly popular with the Pro PowerBook user.
