StreetSpace. is an internet-based service that offers its users free e-mail access, web browsing, community conversation, and personalized online information. The >StreetSpace. service will be accessible through standard web browsers; additionally, in selected cities, >StreetSpace. will install hundreds of Street Linc terminals in high-traffic public spaces such as streets and malls and in retail establishments such as coffeehouses and restaurants. IDEO provided industrial design for the Street Linc that is sleek but extremely rugged. The cast aluminum terminal needed to be as indestructible as a parking meter while providing easy service access. The shape helps direct the user to the small stand on the right, and the headphones that hang from a hook on the left.
