NEW, AFFORDABLE THERMAL LABEL PRINTER FROM SEIKO INSTRUMENTS DELIVERS
300 DPI FOR SHARP GRAPHICS, 2D BARCODE PRINTING, IMPROVED
NETWORKABILITY
Small Footprint Printer Provides Smooth Integration With Vertical
Market Applications
TORRANCE, Calif. - August 2, 2006 - Seiko Instruments USA is
expanding its flagship line with a new model, the SLP 440, a small
footprint, affordable Smart Label Printer (SLP) offering simple
set-up, 300 dpi high resolution thermal printing, 2D barcoding and
enhanced networking and graphics capabilities for office use or
integration with vertical market applications.
Seiko Instruments has added more than 23 new paper and adhesive
labels to its already extensive label line-up, some up to 2 1/8
inches wide, making labeling items such as shipping boxes, patient
records, files or storage bins, a cinch. Text can be imported easily
from most Mac and PC applications with Seiko's SmartCapture feature,
which automatically recognizes information from specific applications
and inserts it directly into the SLP software. With SmartCapture,
users can simply highlight and "grab" text from standard desktop
computing applications, such as ACT, Goldmine, Word and Outlook, for
quick and easy output on a label.
The SLP 440 sports new software, engineered using Mac Universal
binaries that allow it to run natively on both Power PC and
Intel-based Macintosh systems, as well as most other common Windows
platforms.
Generating a label in as little as two seconds, Seiko SLPs make handy
desktop companions for administrative personnel in virtually any
professional setting, from small businesses to large corporations.
The SLP 440 can also be programmed to integrate with vertical
applications in education, healthcare/medical, government,
consulting, business/professional services, retail, real estate,
accounting or law.
2D barcoding software is supported in the new SLP 440. The barcode
feature is particularly useful in medical, education and government
environments because it allows users to generate labels quickly for
applications such as inventory control, shipping, or marking
confidential records or patient history.
"The need to record and print out information on small labels quickly
and efficiently is becoming essential in many industries," Dennis
Cox, director of sales and marketing, Business and Home/Office
Products Division, Seiko Instruments USA, said. "Seiko Instruments is
committed to producing a quality label printer product and
continuously making it better through hardware and software
enhancements that address the needs of today's evolving market."
Seiko Instruments recently partnered with leading network solutions
provider, silex technology america, Inc., making printing from the
SLPs in a networked environment easier than ever. The SX-1000U and
SX-2000WG silex print servers quickly convert Seiko's Smart Label
Printers into shared resources over any wired LAN or wireless
802.11g/b WLAN.
Operating System Compatibility
Seiko Instruments Smart Label Printers are compatible with Windows
2000, Windows XP, Mac OS 10.2 and higher, Power Macintosh G3/G4, iMac
and both Intel-and PowerPC-based Mac computers, making printing
labels from nearly any Windows or Mac application quick and easy. The
SLP 440 supports both USB and serial interfaces for quick and simple
connectivity.

The SLP 440 will be available in August at an estimated street price
(ESP) of $159 at leading retailers including Fry's Electronics,
