The "HOWTOs"

The "HOWTOs" are documents which are often very elaborative relative to a given subject. For example, to engrave CDs under Linux, consult the "CD-Writing HOWTO". To set up a "firewall", consult the "firewall HOWTO".

The HOWTOs must first of all be installed (if they are not already). To do this, insert your CD, go to the directory Mandrake/RPMS/ and install the file ``howto-5.2-2.noarch.rpm" (the exact name depends on your current Mandrake version).

If you are in the shell, type rpm -i howto-5.2-2.noarch.rpm (attention: this package uses 40 MB once installed),

If you are under X-Window with kfm, click on the icon corresponding to the package ``howto''. This will launch "kpackage" and you will be able to install the HOWTOs.

You can also consult all these documents on you local hard disk in the directory /usr/doc/HOWTO/ in several formats: in text, in html (viewed with kfm or netscape), or dvi (viewed with "xdvi"). The directory /usr/doc/HOWTO/mini/ contains "mini-HOWTOs".

The following is a list of available HOWTOs.
