texture_object
This extension introduces named texture objects.
- In OpenGL 1.0, the only way to name a texture is by defining it
as a single display list. Because display lists are uneditable,
these textures are static. This extension allows images and
parameters of textures to be changed after they are defined.
- A mechanism is provided to prioritize the textures to be held
resident on the subsystem and a query to determine which textures
are resident.
- Tuning Tip:
When using multiple textures, always use texture objects, not
display lists.
