Sour Greps

by Matt Neuburg

Sour Greps -- With reference to my Text Machine review in TidBITS-401, several readers asked why I thought "grep" didn't stand for "global regular expression parser". I did, until I looked it up on the Acronym and Abbreviation Server. Perhaps the truth is lost in the mists of time?

Tom Ritch <ritch@pacbell.net> pointed out that Nisus Writer now does put the whole power of its grep into its menu-and-dialog interface, so the user needn't memorize geeky grep expressions; I pooh-poohed this, but he was perfectly right - he was talking about the latest version, 5.1, which I didn't even know existed. My apologies. [MAN]
