  26. WELCOME TO THE PERSONAL DAILY PLANIT!  
  27.  
  28. We hope you enjoy exploring your new PlanIt.  Every effort 
  29. has been made to make your Personal Daily PlanIt very useful 
  30. and extremely entertaining, and yet easy and intuitive to use.  
  31. However, should you need a little assistance in navigating 
  32. your PlanIt, we have included extensive on-line help that is 
  33. always just a click away.  The PlanIt provides you with 
  34. tremendous flexibility in setting up your planner environment 
  35. for the way you like to work.  Use the Options menu to 
  36. customize the planner tabs, launchers, event icons, and much 
  37. more.

  40. STARTUP GROUP:
  41.             
  42. If you want your PlanIt to automatically run when you load 
  43. Windows, copy the PlanIt icon from the Personal Daily PlanIt 
  44. group to the Startup group  (do this by holding down the
  45. control (Ctrl) key and dragging the PlanIt icon from the 
  46. "Personal Daily PlanIt" group to the "Startup" group).
  47. You may set up the launcher buttons to play any of a host 
  48. of included entertainment features, or to launch your most 
  49. commonly used programs. Whether running in the foreground, 
  50. the background, or minimized, your Personal Daily PlanIt 
  51. is always ready to alert you of any pressing events with 
  52. the media clip of your choice.

  55. LIMITED DEMONSTRATION VERSION:
  56.  
  57. This is a demonstration version of PlanIt Paradise.  As 
  58. such, it has been drastically scaled down.  The real product
  59. has full motion video, audio entertainment, many more small 
  60. and large photos, and much, much more.  
  61.  
  62. You will have 45 days to explore your PlanIt.  To purchase 
  63. either the full CD-ROM or diskette version of the Personal 
  64. Daily PlanIt, visit a software dealer near you or call Media 
  65. Vision at 1-800-845-5870.  Don't worry, when you purchase and 
  66. install the full Personal Daily PlanIt, your PlanIt 
  67. database(s) will be maintained from this Sampler version 
  68. (even after the Sampler expiration).

  70. The Demo version of the PlanIt does not contain any video 
  71. clips or animation files; so, Microsoft Video for Windows 
  72. is not included in this version of the PlanIt.  Compressed 
  73. sound files are included for alarm media clips.  Microsoft 
  74. Video for Windows runtime files are shipped with both the 
  75. full floppy and CD-ROM versions of the Personal Daily PlanIt.

  77. The PlanIt Sampler does contain sound files and requires a
  78. sound driver compatible with MCI.  If you do not have a sound
  79. driver, you may turn off the Start, Lunch, and End clips in 
  80. the Options - Personal Assistant dialog.

  82. The PlanIt has the ability to be voice-controlled as well as 
  83. using voice annotation.  The voice control program, Talk->To
  84. Plus by Dragon Systems, is shipped with both the full floppy 
  85. and CD-ROM versions of the PlanIt.

  87. Although the demonstration version of the Personal Daily 
  88. PlanIt is functional, the following dialogs have been 
  89. disabled in the demonstration version:
  90.    File-Update Media    Download the next month's images and 
  91.             entertainment sound files from CD-ROM
  92.             (CD-ROM version only)
  93.    File-Import Photo    Import Photo CD images into the PlanIt
  94.  
  95. Also, the entertainment launchers contain content for only 
  96. 31 days, rather than the normal 366 days.  The demo lacks 
  97. the video introduction files and the voice recordings for 
  98. the entertainment content. (Both the full floppy and CD-ROM 
  99. version include video introduction files; only the CD-ROM 
  100. version contains the entertainment launcher sound files).

  102. There are only a few small images and only 1 large image 
  103. included in this version (there are 432 each small and large 
  104. images with the CD-ROM version; the floppy version has 97 
  105. small and 13 large images).

  114. All three versions of the PlanIt are available on both 
  115. CD-ROM and diskette.  Visit a software dealer near you 
  116. or call Media Vision at 1-800-845-5870.

  118. MEMORY AND SMARTDRV:
  119.  
  120. If you are running Windows on a 4 MB system with 256 or more 
  121. colors or an 8 MB system with more than 256 colors (16- or 
  122. 24-bit color),  you may encounter problems if you are running
  123. SMARTDRV with default settings.  Ordinarily, SMARTDRV reserves
  124. 2 MB of memory (XMS) and this memory is not available to 
  125. Windows programs.  We recommend changing your SMARTDRV 
  126. settings to:

  130. For more information on these settings and their effect, type
  131. 'help smartdrv' from your DOS directory.  Also, you can check
  132. the available memory by typing:

  137. PRINTING:
  138.  
  139. When using the HP Laser Jet 4Mx Si printer driver, select from
  140. the following fonts:  Arial, Courier New, Times New Roman, 
  141. Symbol, or Wingdings.  If you need to use other fonts, try 
  142. switching to the Laser Jet 3Si printer driver.

  145. WIN.INI FILE
  146.  
  147. The Personal Daily PlanIt copies its own font into the Windows
  148. System directory and adds: PlanIt= PSYS.FON to the [fonts] 
  149. section of the WIN.INI file. This does not take affect until 
  150. Windows is restarted after the PlanIt install.

  153. DATABASE FILE DESCRIPTION:

  155. Your Personal Daily PlanIt uses several files to maintain all
  156. of the information that makes up a user's database. All of the 
  157. files for one database have the same file name, but different 
  158. extensions as follows:

  160.     *.0ix        Event information index file
  161.     *.1dt        Recurring event data file
  162.     *.1ix        Recurring event index file
  163.     *.2dt        Address book data file
