About Crested Butte: An Interactive Tour
Crested Butte: An Interactive Tour was developed for the ultimate entertainment and convenience of skiers and vacationers. With this disc, you will be able to choose restaurants, lodging, ski trails, air lines, and even recreation, in and around the Crested Butte area. We've even priced meals for you. With our tour as your guide, you have the ability to plan and budget a vacation or ski trip without the hassle of brochures, notes, salespeople, or expensive phone calls trying to get useful information. With many exciting movies, we feature such famous skiers as Kim Reichhelm (1995 US, South Americanand World Extreme Skiing Champion) and Jill Sickles Matlock (1994 US Extreme Skiing Champion). Join them as they glide down gentle slopes or challenge some of the most extreme slopes in the nation. We'll even take you down some slopes with a couple of Crested Buttes' most outrageous ski instructors, Brent Toepper and Pat Wild.

What You Need to Know
In order to properly use Crested Butte: An Interactive Tour you need to know how to turn your computer on and operate your mouse, trackball, trackpad and related pieces of hardware. If you have technical questions on the basic operation of your computer or your CD ROM drive, we suggest you refer to the manuals that came with your hardware.
Getting Started
Setting up, Starting, and Caring for the CD ROM Disc
Make sure that your CD ROM drive is properly attached and compatible with your specific system. You must turn your CD ROM Drive and any other external SCSI devices on before turning on the computer! Insert your Crested Butte: An Interactive Tour CD into the CD-ROM drive as instructed in your CD-ROM manual.
Macintosh
If you are using a Macintosh, an icon should appear on your desktop. Double click on this icon. Click on the CRESTED BUTTE TOUR icon to launch the program. The load time depends on the configuration and speed of your computer.
Windows
We have supplied an installer for you. Insert the Crested Butte CD into your CD-ROM drive. Run Windows and go to the file manager. Select your CD-ROM drive. Double click on the INSTALL.EXE file. This will install a program group and the launch icon inside the folder. To open Crested Butte: AN INTERACTIVE TOUR, double click on the Crested Butte group icon and then double click again on the CBTOUR application icon.
IMPORTANT!! We have included Quicktime for Windows on the CD-ROM. You must have these files installed in your system to view the movies on the disk. Go to the file manager and select your CD-ROM drive. Double-click the QTSETUP folder. Double-click the SETUP.EXE file and follow the directions on screen.
Here are a few pointers on caring for your CD ROM disc:
Always put the CD back into its original case when not in use
Do not scratch the surface of the CD
Try not to touch the surface of the CD
If your CD needs to be cleaned, always use a soft dry cloth and never wipe in a circular motion. Wipe gently in a straight line starting at the center of the CD and ending at an outer edge.
Crested Butte: An Interactive Tour, CD-ROM Introduction
We have provided you with an informative and entertaining introduction to our program. We highly suggest that you watch it the first time you use this program to familiarize yourself with our buttons and get some helpful hints. After that, however, the choice is yours. You can easily skip over the introduction by clicking once on the "Skip Intro" button.
Help
In most screens there will be a "Help" button in the lower left hand corner of the screens that are not automated (such as the introduction). Whenever the automated areas end, you will be back in a manual screen. Manual screens are areas that require you to click on a button for anything to happen. Most manual screens will have the help button in the lower left-hand side of the screen. If you need help and cannot find a "Help" button, either back up a screen or go on to the next.
How to use Help
The "Help" screen found in this program will not give you specific information on how to view each screen. It does, however, explain what action each button will perform and how they will appear on your screen. Please pay close attention to this area as you may miss out on some of our exciting movies if you don't. There is also a demonstration movie in "Help" to practice the use of the buttons in the movie screens. The "Help" screen will not change from scene to scene; it is constant throughout the program.
Quicktime Movie Buttons
Sound
Controls the volume of the movies. To change the volume, click and hold on this button, scroll down the numbers to choose the volume desired (9 is the loudest volume and 0 is mute), and release the mouse button when the number you want is highlighted. Some of the music in the QuickTime movies is notably louder or softer than others. You can adjust each movie at your discretion. You can even turn the sound off if you wish. Note: If you have adjusted the volume on one QuickTime movie, the program does not adjust the volume for the rest. You adjust only the volume for that specific movie, and only for the time it is played. There is a difference in volume between the individual movies and this prevents you from lowering the volume on one movie and not being able to hear the music on the next. If no sound is desired or necessary, you may make the appropriate adjustments on the computer's system volume.
Play
This button allows you to play a movie; just click and release this button and a QuickTime movie will start automatically. Once the movie has started, the "Play" button will automatically turn into a "Pause" button and return to its original form either once the movie has been paused or when the movie is over. Note: There will be a small bar to the right of the "Play" button that, once you have clicked on the "Play" button, will incrementally cross to the far right of the movie box. This is your time meter. When the bar reaches the other side of the movie screen, the movie will automatically end. You may also move within the movie by clicking and holding on the bar and then dragging it to the left or right. The movie will follow the bar accordingly. The movie will fast forward or rewind relative to the direction you drag the bar. After you have watched a movie, the bar will automatically reset to the beginning when you click on the "Play" button, or exit and re-enter the screen.
Bar
This sliding bar lets you know how much of the movie is left. Please refer to its usage as described above in the "Play" button section under "Note:".
Pause
This button allows you to pause the movie at any time. The "Pause" button will appear in place of the "Play" button once you have started a movie. To activate this button, click on it once. Once you have activated the "Pause" button, it will again become the "Play" button. Simply click on the "Play" button to restart your movie. The movie will reset if you leave the screen.
Rewind
This button will allow you to rewind the movie to a desired point. Just click on this button and hold until you have reached the part of the movie you would like to view again. Since we feature exciting and original footage of Kim Reichhelm (1995 US and World Extreme Skiing Champion) and Jill Sickles Matlock (1994 US Extreme Skiing Champion), you will certainly want to watch some of our movies over and over again!
Screen Buttons
The buttons in this program are user-friendly and easily understood. Most buttons lead to other areas, allowing you to narrow your area of interest to receive relative and specific information. To activate a button, simply place your mouse arrow on the button you want and click once. You should see the button flash a bright color briefly. Do not be alarmed if the screen does not change immediately, it will take about one second to complete the transfer. There will be an audible "click" when the screen changes and you should be in the area you selected.
Continue/Right Arrow
This button, located in various areas allows you to go on to the next screen. To activate the button, click on it once. Note: If you click on this button at a movie screen before you have seen the movie, you will bypass the movie. If you clicked it accidentally, you can get back the same way you originally got there.
Left Arrow
This button allows you to go back to your previous screen. To activate this button, simply click on it once.
Right Arrow
This button moves you forward to the next screen. To activate this button, click on it once.
Ski Trail
This button is to the left of the ski trails listed. To activate this button, point you mouse cursor on it and click once. The trail you selected will be highlighted on the mountain. You can locate any of the ski trails listed by clicking on this or the button we are about to describe.
Ski Trails With Movies
This button depicts a ski trail that has a movie attached. To activate this button, click on it once. You should then see the chosen trail highlighted on the mountain and a small box off to the left-hand side of the screen that says "Click Here to See Movie". Click anywhere in the movie box, and you will see the first frame of the movie. The movie will not start unless you click on the "Play" button. All of the movies use the same controls, so please refer to the instructions listed in the "Movie Buttons" as to the function and operation of the individual buttons.
Standard Button
This is the button you will see most often. These buttons look alike except for the text. These act as a "pyramid," if you will, narrowing your fields of interest by category. The function of this button is relative to the text on it. For example: If the button says "Mountain," your next screen will be the Crested Butte mountain. You may then choose "Ski Trails," and go that screen. Now you may choose "Extreme Skiing" where most of the extreme ski trails have been listed.
Miscellaneous Buttons
There are additional buttons in the program which we have not listed in this manual. In most cases, there will be text explaining how to use them. Simply follow the directions as stated on the screen.
Quick Keys
The "Quick Keys" for Macintosh are: Command "Q" to quit.
The "Quick Keys" for Windows are: Control "Q" to quit.
