**************************************************** FIDO-128 - TERMINAL EMULATOR FOR THE SPECTRUM 128K's **************************************************** P file created : 22 Dec 1990 at Fourth Dimension BBS Poole. Tel 0202 600305 (21:00hrs - 18:00hrs Every day) In this P file "FID128.P" You will find the following files FID128.BAS - BASIC Program FID128.CDE - Machine Code FID128.TW2 - This TASWORD II Textfile Please try to maintain the above file contents if theprogram is distrubuted further.. FIDO-128 was written by members of the Dutch Sinclair Usersgroup, and is designed to drive intellegient modems via the128+'s RS232 port. I have tested the program machine to machine between aAmstrad made Spectrum +3 and a Sinclair QL, with reasonableresults. I have managed to fix most of the querky BASIC that stoppedthe program functioning corrrctly on the +3, and altered MANY ofthe abigious prompts so often used by our Dutch friends! But you still may to alter some of it to suit your own requirements. First of all you will need to connect a modem to your 128'sRS232 port, I believe that this is most likely to be the mostproblematic part of getting this software to work! I cannotreally give much advice on acheiving this feat as I have notbeen able to find time to attempt it. But I have found that theRS232 port on the Spectrum 128 is the same as the Sinclair QL'sSER1 port, which is configured as a DCE port (DATA COMMUNICATIONEQUIPMENT ) It's pin assignments are as folows: Pin Name Function ------------------------------- 1 GND Signal Ground 2 TxD Input 3 RxD Output 4 DTR Ready Input 5 CTS Ready Output 6 12v +12v (Pull Up) ------------------------------- NB: Pin 1 is opposite the Clip ------------------------------- Now there are not enough handshaking lines above to drivemost modems, so you are likely to have to pull some up by tyingthen to +12v, to make the modem work properly. There are some un-documented commands in Fido128, so I willexplain them now. SYM/SHIFT A - Go to main menu (Also BREAK will do this!) GRAPHICS - Send an ESCape character EXTENDED - Send a CTRL character SYM/SHIFT U - Xmodem Upload contents of buffer SYM/SHIFT I - Xmodem Download to buffer SYM/SHIFT Y - ASCII Upload contents of buffer. This is all I can tell you about the program for the timebeing, I hope to have been able to find out more in the nearfuture.
