  1.       ****************************************************            FIDO-128 - TERMINAL EMULATOR FOR THE SPECTRUM 128K's            ****************************************************                                                                         P file created : 22 Dec 1990 at Fourth Dimension BBS Poole.           Tel 0202 600305 (21:00hrs - 18:00hrs Every day)                                                                           In this P file "FID128.P" You will find the following files                                                                          FID128.BAS  -  BASIC Program                                    FID128.CDE  -  Machine Code                                     FID128.TW2  -  This TASWORD II Textfile                                                                                     Please try to  maintain  the  above  file  contents  if  theprogram is distrubuted further..                                                                                                    FIDO-128 was written by members of the Dutch Sinclair  Usersgroup, and is designed to  drive  intellegient  modems  via  the128+'s RS232 port.                                                                                                                  I have tested the  program  machine  to  machine  between  aAmstrad made Spectrum +3 and  a  Sinclair  QL,  with  reasonableresults.                                                                                                                            I have managed to fix most of the querky BASIC that  stoppedthe program functioning corrrctly on the +3, and altered MANY ofthe abigious prompts so often used by our Dutch friends! But  you still may to alter some of it to suit your own requirements.                                                                      First of all you will need to connect a modem to your  128'sRS232 port, I believe that this is most likely to  be  the  mostproblematic part of getting this software  to  work!   I  cannotreally give much advice on acheiving this feat  as  I  have  notbeen able to find time to attempt it.  But I have found that theRS232 port on the Spectrum 128 is the same as the Sinclair  QL'sSER1 port, which is configured as a DCE port (DATA COMMUNICATIONEQUIPMENT )  It's pin assignments are as folows:                                                                                Pin    Name    Function                                         -------------------------------                                 1      GND     Signal Ground                                    2      TxD     Input                                            3      RxD     Output                                           4      DTR     Ready Input                                      5      CTS     Ready Output                                     6      12v     +12v (Pull Up)                                   -------------------------------                                 NB: Pin 1 is opposite the Clip                                  -------------------------------                                                                                                    Now there are not enough handshaking  lines  above  to  drivemost modems, so you are likely to have to pull some up by  tyingthen to +12v, to make the modem work properly.                                                                                     There are some un-documented commands in Fido128, so  I  willexplain them now.                                                                                                               SYM/SHIFT A  -  Go to main menu (Also BREAK will do this!)      GRAPHICS     -  Send an ESCape character                        EXTENDED     -  Send a CTRL character                           SYM/SHIFT U  -  Xmodem Upload contents of buffer                SYM/SHIFT I  -  Xmodem Download to buffer                       SYM/SHIFT Y  -  ASCII Upload contents of buffer.                                                                                    This is all I can tell you about the program  for  the  timebeing,  I hope to have been able to find out more  in  the  nearfuture.                                                                                                                                 Good Luck                                                                 Wayne Weedon (SysOp 4th Dimension BBS)                                                                                                                                                                   ***********                                                     END OF FILE                                                     ***********
