OCR: Where does the hobby go from here? Page 1 of 2 Where do RPGs go from here? Consider: RPGs have been around for more that twenty years now and have gone from the original Chainmail (precursor to D&D) to the present day Cyberpunk, Vampire and Amber Diceless games, They have tapped into every genre from Fantasy to High Tech Science fiction and have tried endless variations on combat systems, character generation, buckets of dice or no dice at all. Also, recently, the Tradable Card Games, Magic, Jyhad, Star Trek, Spellfire etc have appeared on the scene, carving themselves out a sizeable niche in the market taking advantage of the lull in the RPG market caused by a lack of really attention grabbing new products, So where does the hobby go from here? Magic (and it's clones/ variations) are, like it or not, going to have a limited lifespan, They are an interesting side line to the hobby, but they are not a hobby in themselves (for reasons of finance as much as anything). Current RPGs on the market are getting stale. From conversations with three local gaming shops there is *no* RPG which is "selling big" at the moment. Magic et al are selling, but, sooner or later they are going to saturate their market . ? EXIT INDEN IST - PAGE LAST PAGE SOTO PASE DOUBLE CLICK
