REQUIREMENTS:
____________
VIET requires an IBM-PC/XT/AT or compatible computer with
CGA graphics capability (a color monitor is NOT required).
Printing requires a dot-matrix printer with graphics capabilities
compatible with the EPSON or IBM PROPRINTER standards (most
dot-matrix printers are). The printer must be connected to the
parallel port of your computer.
TO PRINT OUT MANUAL:
___________________
To get a print out of VIET's user's manual, use the
following steps:
1. First make sure that you are logged onto the drive and
directory containing VIET. Then execute the VIET program by
typing:
VIET [Enter]
2. When VIET asks for a file name, type:
MANUAL.ENG
The manual will be loaded and ready to be printed.
3. Make sure that a dot-matrix printer is connected to your
computer's parallel port. Ready the printer, then type:
CTRL-P (hold the CTRL and P keys down
simultaneously)
VIET will display "CNTRL-P:" at the top left corner. Next
type:
P
VIET will ask: "PRINT entire file?" Answer by typing:
Y
Printing the entire manual can take as long as 70 minutes,
depending on your computer and printer's speed. (Alternately,
you may want to skip this step and get a bound manual directly by
becoming a registered user, as described below.)
REGISTRATION:
____________
VIET has been developed to serve the Vietnamese communities'
writing needs and to encourage the use of the Vietnamese language
in communities outside Vietnam.
To make the program accessible to as many as possible, we
have chosen the most basic and readily available equipment, such
as CGA capability and dot-matrix printers. This equipment
selection in turn dictated some of our design. However, we have
adhered to the design principle of making VIET as easy to use as
possible. Most input commands and keystroke selections are
chosen to be as ergonomic as possible, requiring the least time
and hand movements to execute.
If you like VIET and would like to support the development
of a new version of VIET which will have more features and
support more advanced hardware (EGA, VGA, laser printers, etc.)
while retaining the same ergonomy, you may do so by becoming a
registered user of VIET. Registering involves filling out the
registration form in the file "REGISTER.DOC" to better inform the
author of your needs, and sending the form together with $15 to
the address on VIET's opening screen. As a registered VIET user,
you will receive:
1. Two graphic, interactive programs (SCDESIGN and
PRDESIGN) which will let you modify VIET's screen and printer
fonts, or create your own custom fonts.
2. A bound manual for VIET and these 2 companion programs.
3. Corrected software if bugs are found.
4. A 50% discount on the purchase of the new version of
VIET--or a free copy, sent automatically, if the new release will
be distributed as shareware.
