  4.      VIET  requires an  IBM-PC/XT/AT  or compatible computer with 
  5. CGA graphics  capability (a  color  monitor  is   NOT  required).  
  6. Printing requires a dot-matrix printer with graphics capabilities 
  7. compatible with   the   EPSON  or  IBM PROPRINTER standards (most 
  8. dot-matrix printers are).   The  printer must be connected to the 
  9. parallel port of your computer.

  12.                      TO PRINT OUT MANUAL:

  15.      To get a  print  out  of  VIET's   user's manual,  use   the 
  16. following steps:
  17.  
  18.      1.  First  make sure that you are logged onto  the drive and 
  19. directory containing  VIET.   Then execute the  VIET  program  by 
  20. typing:
  21.                          VIET [Enter]
  22.  
  23.      2.  When VIET asks for a file name, type:
  24.  
  25.                          MANUAL.ENG
  26.  
  27. The manual will be loaded and ready to be printed. 
  28.  
  29.      3.  Make sure that a dot-matrix printer is connected to your 
  30. computer's parallel port.  Ready the printer, then type:
  31.  
  32.                          CTRL-P    (hold the CTRL and P keys down 
  33.                                                   simultaneously)
  34.      VIET will display "CNTRL-P:"  at the top left corner.   Next 
  35. type:
  36.                           P

  38.      VIET will  ask:   "PRINT  entire file?"  Answer by typing:
  39.                     
  40.                          Y
  41.  
  42.      Printing  the entire  manual can take as long as 70 minutes, 
  43. depending on  your computer and printer's  speed.   (Alternately, 
  44. you may want to skip this step and get a bound manual directly by 
  45. becoming a registered user, as described below.)

  51.      VIET has been developed to serve the Vietnamese communities'
  52. writing needs and to encourage the use of the Vietnamese language 
  53. in communities outside Vietnam.
  54.  
  55.      To make the  program accessible to as many as possible,   we 
  56. have chosen the most basic and readily available equipment,  such 
  57. as  CGA capability   and dot-matrix  printers.    This  equipment 
  58. selection in turn dictated some of our design.   However, we have 
  59. adhered to the design  principle of making VIET as easy to use as 
  60. possible.    Most   input  commands  and keystroke selections are 
  61. chosen to be as  ergonomic as possible,  requiring the least time 
  62. and hand movements to execute.
  63.  
  64.      If you like  VIET and would like to support  the development 
  65. of  a  new version  of VIET  which  will have more  features  and 
  66. support more advanced hardware (EGA,  VGA,  laser printers, etc.) 
  67. while retaining  the same ergonomy,  you may  do so by becoming a 
  68. registered user of VIET.   Registering  involves  filling out the 
  69. registration form in the file "REGISTER.DOC" to better inform the 
  70. author  of your needs,  and sending the form together with $15 to 
  71. the address on VIET's opening screen.  As a registered VIET user, 
  72. you will receive:
  73.  
  74.      1.   Two  graphic,   interactive   programs    (SCDESIGN and 
  75. PRDESIGN) which  will let  you modify VIET's screen  and  printer 
  76. fonts, or create your own custom fonts.
  77.  
  78.      2.  A bound manual for VIET and these 2 companion programs.
  79.  
  80.      3.  Corrected software if bugs are found.
  81.  
  82.      4.  A 50%  discount  on  the purchase of the  new version of 
  83. VIET--or a free copy, sent automatically, if the new release will 
  84. be distributed as shareware.
