  1. Summary of the Educational Resources
  2. Information Center (ERIC) Redesign
  3. The 16 clearinghouses acquire, review and disseminate documents,
  4. prepare indexes and abstracts which are entered into the ERIC
  5. database.  Each clearinghouse also prepares periodic reports,
  6. digests, and other documents that cover research in the areas
  7. assigned to the clearinghouse.  The clearinghouse configuration
  8. follows:

  10. Adult, Career, and Vocational Education.  Covers adult,
  11. continuing, career and vocational educational and related areas
  12. such as proprietary schools.  Includes all levels of adult and
  13. continuing education from basic literacy training through
  14. professional skill upgrading; vocational and technical education
  15. covering all service areas for secondary, postsecondary, and
  16. adult populations; career education and career development
  17. programs for all ages and populations in educational,
  18. institutional commercial, and industrial settings.

  20. Counseling and Personnel.  Covers preparation, practice, and
  21. supervision of counselors at all educational levels and in all
  22. settings; theoretical development of counseling and guidance;
  23. personnel procedures such as testing and interviewing and the
  24. analysis and dissemination of the resultant information; group
  25. work and case work; nature of pupil, student, and adult
  26. characteristics; personnel workers and their relation to career
  27. planning, family consultations and student orientation
  28. activities.

  30. Educational Management.  Covers leadership, management, finance,
  31. governance, and structure of public and private secondary
  32. schools.  Includes schools, school districts, and other
  33. educational agencies with emphasis on training, practice and
  34. theory of administration, inservice and preservice preparation of
  35. administrators; methods and varieties of organizations;
  36. organizational change and finance; and research on the components
  37. of effective schooling.

  39. Elementary and Early Childhood Education.  Covers physical,
  40. cognitive, social, educational and cultural development of
  41. children from birth through early adolescence.  Includes learning
  42. theory, research and practice related to the development of young
  43. children.
  44.  
  45. Handicapped and Gifted Children.  Covers education and
  46. development of the special child, including prevention,
  47. identification, assessment, intervention and enrichment. 
  48. Includes areas relevant to both handicapped and gifted
  49. populations including early childhood education, curriculum,
  50. teaching methods, administration, career education, teacher
  51. preparation, legislative and judicial requirements, program
  52. development and evaluation, and related services.
