  1.        subject: FAULT FINDER OVERVIEW
  2.  
  3.     discussion: PC-Type II's Fault Finder will check the spelling of a
  4.                 particular word, or your entire document, and will
  5.                 also point out any words used twice in succession.
  6.  
  7.                 If a word is encountered which does not exist in the
  8.                 PC-Type II dictionary file, PCTYPE.DIC, then an
  9.                 alternative list of words may be requested which may
  10.                 contain the correct spelling of the desired word.
  11.  
  12.                 If a word is used twice in a row, the Fault Finder
  13.                 will delete the second occurrence at your request.
  14.  
  15.     dictionary: In order to check the spelling of a word, the location
  16.                 of the file PCTYPE.DIC must be known to the Fault
  17.                 Finder.  This location should be in the .PRO file.
  18.                 (See the Configuration section of this manual to see
  19.                 how to define the location of the Fault Finder
  20.                 dictionary.)

  22.                 If this path is not defined and you attempt to run the
  23.                 Fault Finder, a message will be displayed indicating
  24.                 that the dictionary cannot be found.  Should this
  25.                 occur, use keystroke 7 from the Configuration Files
  26.                 menu reached by selecting the "(F)ile handling" option
  27.                 of the Configuration Menu.  Then enter the path to the
  28.                 dictionary.

  30.                 Words can be added to the dictionary file using the
  31.                 program PCMERGE.EXE.  (See the section Other Programs
  32.                 to see how this can be done.)

  34.        running: Ctrl Z or the "(F)ault Finder" option in the Main Menu
  35.                 will begin the Fault Finder operation.  It will start
  36.                 at the current cursor position and continue toward the
  37.                 end of the file.  When a word is encountered which
  38.                 does not appear in the dictionary, or when two words
  39.                 are found twice in succession, the Fault Finder will
  40.                 stop and ask how to proceed.

  42.                 The Fault Finder may be stopped at any time by
  43.                 pressing the Esc key.
  44.  
  45.                 Ctrl O or the "(W)ord check" option in the Main Menu
  46.                 will check the spelling of the word on which the
  47.                 cursor is currently located.  If the word is not in
  48.                 the dictionary, an alternative set of words may be
  49.                 requested.

  59.     discussion: When the Fault Finder is run in its normal mode,
  60.                 (Ctrl Z) and a word is encountered which does not
  61.                 appear in the dictionary, the word is highlighted on
  62.                 the screen and the following menu is displayed.

  76.         e(X)it: The Fault Finder is stopped and you are returned to
  77.                 the normal edit mode.

  79.       (I)gnore: Selecting this option will cause the Fault Finder to
  80.                 continue as if the word under the cursor were in the
  81.                 dictionary.  If the same word is encountered again,
  82.                 the Fault Finder will stop again.

  84.       (A)ccept: The word under the cursor is placed in a temporary
  85.                 buffer and the Fault Finder continues.  If the same
  86.                 word is encountered again, the Fault Finder will not
  87.                 stop, but will continue as if the word were actually
  88.                 in the dictionary.

  90.                 The temporary buffer is only active during the current
  91.                 PC-Type II session.  When you exit PC-Type II, the buffer
  92.                 will be gone.  This buffer holds the first 100 words
  93.                 assigned.

  95.          (P)ut: This option is similar to the "(A)ccept" option
  96.                 described above.  In addition, however, the word under
  97.                 the cursor is placed in the file PCTYPE.ADD located in
  98.                 the same directory as the dictionary.  You can use the
  99.                 program PCMERGE.EXE to add the contents of the
  100.                 PCTYPE.ADD file to the dictionary.  (See the section
  101.                 "Other programs" for a further discussion of
  102.                 PCMERGE.EXE)

  104.       (S)earch: This option provides a list of alternative words which
  105.                 exist in the dictionary and which may be the correct
  106.                 word.  Any word in the list can be used to replace the
  107.                 highlighted word.  This option is described on the
  108.                 next page.

  115.     discussion: If you check the spelling of one word with Ctrl O and
  116.                 the word does not exist in the dictionary, the message
  117.                 "Search for Alternate spelling?" will be displayed.
  118.                 If you press Y for Yes, the Fault Finder will look for
  119.                 ten words in the dictionary which most closely
  120.                 approximate the word in question.

  122.                 If the Fault Finder is running in Ctrl Z mode and a
  123.                 word is found which does not exist in the dictionary,
  124.                 and you select the "(S)earch for alternates" option,
  125.                 the Fault Finder will again look for ten words in the
  126.                 dictionary as above.

  150.                 selection and that word will replace the word under
  151.                 the cursor.  The case of the word replaced is
  152.                 respected, e.g., if the word is capitalized, the
  153.                 replacement word will also be capitalized.

  155.                 If the correct word does not exist in the list, you
  156.                 can press X for "e(X)it" or the Esc key which returns
  157.                 you to the edit mode with the cursor on the word in
  158.                 question.  You can then type in the correction.

  187.         e(X)it: This option will exit the Fault Finder and return you
  188.                 to the edit mode with the cursor on the second of the
  189.                 two duplicate words.
  190.  
  191.       (I)gnore: Selecting this option will cause the Fault Finder to
  192.                 continue as if no word duplication existed.  If the
  193.                 same duplicate words are encountered again, the Fault
  194.                 Finder will stop again.
  195.  
  196.       (A)ccept: The word under the cursor is placed in a temporary
  197.                 buffer and the Fault Finder continues.  If the same
  198.                 duplicate words are encountered again, the Fault
  199.                 Finder will not stop but continue as if no duplication
  200.                 had occurred.  This is handy, for example, if you are
  201.                 writing a paper about Walla Walla, Washington and
  202.                 don't want the Fault Finder to stop every time it
  203.                 encounters that city's name in the text.

  205.                 The temporary buffer is only active during the current
  206.                 PC-Type II session.  When you finally exit PC-Type II, the
  207.                 buffer will be lost.

  209.                 The temporary buffer will hold the first 100 words

  212.       (D)elete: The second word is deleted from the text just as if
  213.                 the Del key were pressed repeatedly until the word
  214.                 disappears.
