  1.     Move the cursor to the X below and type in this paragraph.  Don't press
  2.     the Enter key, just keep typing.  The object is to see how the normal
  3.     typing works.

  7.     Now move the cursor to this X and press Ctrl \.  This command splits a
  8.     line.  Now press Ctrl J.  The line has been rejoined.  Split the line
  9.     again, but this time press the Del key.  The Del key will reorganize
  10.     the paragraph.

  12.     NOTE: As you progress through this file, press the PgDn key when you
  13.           to see more text.

  15.     Move the cursor to this X, press the Ins key, and then press the period
  16.     10 times.  Now press the Backspace key 10 times.  Notice how the
  17.     paragraph moves with these actions.  Turn of the Insert mode by
  18.     pressing the Ins key again.  Notice that the "I" disappears from the
  19.     status area at the top of your screen.

  22.     REFORMATTING A PARAGRAPH
  23.  
  24.           This    paragraph has        purposely been messed up
  25.              so that you may
  26.     see the effects               of using   Ctrl R, the reformat
  27.                                                          command.
  28.     Move the cursor anywhere
  29.                             within this paragraph and press
  30.             Ctrl R.

  32.     Notice that after reformatting a paragraph, the cursor moves to the
  33.     beginning of the next paragraph in case you should want to reformat
  34.     that paragraph as well.

  36.     ERASING and DELETING LINES - "Whoops"
  37.  
  38.     Move the cursor to the X on the line below and then press F6.  This
  39.     action erases text below and X xxx yyy zzz www fffff gggg hhhh kkkk
  40.     to the right of the cursor.  Now press Ctrl W to bring back the line.
  41.     Now press F5 to delete the modified line.

  43.     HIGHLIGHTING - COPYING and MOVING
  44.  
  45.     The other basics of editing a file are copying and moving.  PC-Type has
  46.     a very wide assortment of these options, but only the most basic ones
  47.     will be shown here.

  49.     Move the cursor to the X below and press Ctrl L.  Then move the cursor
  50.     -W- to the Y below and press Ctrl L again.  You have now "highlighted"
  51.     -X- area of text with the simplest highlight type.  This area is now
  52.     -Y- marked for further action.  First we will try to copy.  Move the
  53.     cursor to the Z below and then press Ctrl C.  Next press Ctrl D
  54.     (delete the highlight).
  55.     -Z-
  56.     Now try a move.  Highlight the X and Y lines again with Ctrl L's, move
  57.     the cursor to the W line above, and press Ctrl M.  Things should now be
  58.     where they were at the beginning.

  60.     These are the simplest moves and copies.  Of course you can move words,
  61.     sentences, and even blocks of text.

  63.     PRINTING
  64.  
  65.     Now let's attempt to print this file.  Position the file so the line
  66.     below is at the top of your screen.

  68.                                                 Press F2 - select (P)rint.
  69.                                                 Press Enter to activate the
  70.                                                 output field.  Press F6 and
  71.                                                 then type JUNK and press
  72.                                                 Enter.

  74.                                                 Move the highlight to the
  75.                                                 "Amount to print:" line and
  76.                                                 press Enter until the
  77.                                                 selection "ALL" appears.

  84.                                                 print to LPT1, the parallel

  91.     QUITTING / SAVING

  93.     You have by now become adept at quitting a file.  Press F4 again, but
  94.     this time when asked "Are you sure?" press the N key.  You are brought
  95.     back to here.

  97.     Now let's save this file under a different name - JUNK.PCT.

  99.     Press F9 to save the file.  The cursor will move to the Command Line
  100.     and the filespec will be displayed.  Erase the line with F6, type
  101.     JUNK.PCT and press the Enter key.  Since the .PCT extension implies
  102.     that this will be a document type file, you are asked to enter a file
  103.     reminder.  Type "junk file made from SAMPLE.TXT" and press Enter.
