Microsoft University Offers a Variety of Technical Training
Opportunities for New Windows Platform
Redmond, Wash. -- MAY 22, 1990 -- Microsoft today announced the
availability of a variety of technical training opportunities on the
new Microsoft(R) Windows(TM) graphical environment version 3.0. The
courses, offered through Microsoft University, include two levels of
instruction in programming for the Windows environment. The courses
are available either at Microsoft University's dedicated facility in
Bellevue, Washington, or at its satellite campuses in Boston and
Washington D.C. On-site training is also available and is a cost-
effective alternative for companies with approximately 15-20
participants. For those who prefer self-paced instruction, a video-
based training course on the fundamentals of Microsoft Windows
programming is also available.
"Windows version 3.0 is an incredible development environment," said
Bill Gates, Microsoft chairman and chief executive officer. "It lets
developers build powerful graphical applications that are also easy to
learn and use. And through Microsoft University's courses, developers
can get the latest word on programming for this environment--straight
from the company that created it."
Microsoft Windows Programming Environment
-----------------------------------------
The first course, Microsoft Windows Programming Environment, is aimed
at experienced software engineers who are familiar with the C language
but have not yet developed programs for the Microsoft Windows
graphical environment. By the end of this intensive, hands-on course,
students will have completed their own application and used all the
main building constructs of the Windows graphical environment.
Microsoft Windows Application Programming
-----------------------------------------
The second course, Microsoft Windows Application Programming, covers
more advanced features, picking up where the first course leaves off.
It is aimed at experienced Windows programmers who have completed the
first course or have been actively using the Windows Software
Development Kit for at least six months. By the completion of the
application programming course, students will be able to develop
complex applications using multiple windows, multi-tasking, dialog
boxes, interprocess communications, and advanced memory management
techniques.
Video-based Training
--------------------
The video training package is for those software engineers who prefer
self-paced instruction. The course utilizes lectures and extensive lab
exercises. Focusing on teaching the fundamentals of Microsoft Windows
programming, the course is currently being updated to use the new
Windows version 3.0 Software Development Kit and Microsoft C compiler
version 6.0 and is expected in July.
Microsoft University was founded in 1987 to provide software
developers with a source of timely, technical training on Microsoft
systems and environments software. Since its founding, it has served
more than 13,000 students.
