  5.      REDMOND, WA -- October 8, 1990 -- To encourage the many Windows 
  6. environment users to have fun with Windows, Microsoft Corp. Monday 
  7. announced the availability of Microsoft Entertainment Pack for Windows. 
  8.  
  9.      This product offers a great diversion from serious work by providing
  10. seven popular games.  These games were developed by  Microsoft Windows
  11. graphical environment version 3.0 programmers in their spare time and
  12. became so popular at Microsoft, the company decided to market the package
  13. commercially.  Although the primary benefit of the Microsoft Entertainment
  14. Pack is fun, it also can help new Windows users get comfortable with the
  15. Windows environment.

  17.      "One day the head of software testing walked into my office and said
  18. 'We should do something with all of these great games,' and the concept for
  19. the Entertainment Pack was born," stated Laura Jennings, product manager
  20. for the entry business unit at Microsoft Corp.  "These games, which are a
  21. lot of fun and a terrific value, should be a big hit with all of those
  22. Windows solitaire players out there."

  25. FEATURING POPULAR GAMES

  27.      Included in the Microsoft Entertainment Pack are Tetris, Taipei, 
  28. MineSweeper, TicTactics, Golf, Cruel and Pegged.  Tetris, the Microsoft
  29. Windows version of the popular Soviet arcade game, challenges the user's
  30. skill at interlocking various shapes -- Tetris for Windows even allows two
  31. users to play head-to-head.  Taipei is a complex Oriental game of skill and
  32. chance that can be likened to three-dimensional dominos.

  34.      MineSweeper tests logic skills -- the user needs to clear the
  35. foreboding minefield before time runs out.  TicTactics pits the user
  36. against the computer in the childhood favorite tic-tac-toe, but this time
  37. there are four rows, three dimensions and a difficult computer opponent.
  38. Golf, contrary to what its name implies, is a solitaire game where winning
  39. is tougher than getting a hole-in-one.  For another solitaire challenge,
  40. there is Cruel, which easily lives up to its name.  Finally there is
  41. Pegged, a version of the traditional peg jumping game that looks
  42. deceptively simple.

  44.      In addition to the seven fun-filled games, there is IdleWild, a 
  45. screen saver that lets users turn their screen into a fireworks display,
  46. outerspace, random colors or complete blackness.  With IdleWild, users can
  47. keep their screens busy even when they are not.

  50. AVAILABILITY AND REQUIREMENTS

  52.      The Microsoft Entertainment Pack for Windows will be available in
  53. mid-October for a suggested retail price of $39.95.  The product requires
  54. Microsoft Windows graphical environment version 3.0 or later; MS-DOS or
  55. PC-DOS operating system version 3.1 or later; a personal computer using the
  56. 80286, 80386 SX, or 80386 DX or higher processor; one 5.25-inch high
  57. density (1.2 MB) or one 3.5-inch disk drive and a hard disk; and EGA, VGA,
  58. 8514/A, Hercules graphics card or compatible video graphics adapter and
  59. monitor (color recommended); and the Microsoft Mouse or compatible.
