A note from Mike,
You can see the effort Jeff puts into this program. Every request for a change
is debated back and forth, tried out and then critiqued against the impact on
other types of users. If only all programmers were as responsive to their
users.....
**** VERSION HISTORY AND PROGRAMMER'S NOTES ***********************************
December 1, 1990
Again no major changes. We have added a notation in the headers of the
reports giving credit to Howard Hartman for doing so much good work with
the verification of the non-metro numbers, tweaked the page breaking a bit,
and added a reference to the ERRORS.DOC file when the dreaded bomb appears.
Version 34.0
October 1, 1990
Not too many changes this month. Fixed a truncated second comment field,
and addes a slew of new BBS types. Don't forget folks... As of today, you
have to dial the area code to access a local number which is in a different
state. (I.E. calling DC from VA even though it's local).
Version 33.0
September 3, 1990
Added logic to properly handle the new procedures from MA Bell for dialing
numbers in the local area, but another state. As you know, you now have to
dial the area code to reach MD from VA, even though it's a local call. This
should make life interesting... Thanks C&P!
Version 32.0
Fixed the Non-graphic version to actually work like it is supposed to, broken
several versions ago.
Version 31.0
July 1, 1990
Fixed some problems with the external city file/telephone exchange. This should
be more consistant and a bit faster now. Fixed a problem with some BBS software
types not being recognized.
Version 30.0
June 1, 1990
The CITY information is now an external file, to allow Mike to edit/add
exchanges without having to modify code. Please do not attempt to edit
this file CITY.RAF, as it will likely not work if you do.
Add a bunch of new exchanges and software types.
Version 29.0
May 1, 1990
Just the addition of a few new local extensions, and a hopefull reduction
in the amount of load-time memory needed for Focke.Exe. This should put
a stop to the "out of memory" problems some people had last month.
Version 28.0
April 1, 1990
There was a problem with Sysop's names being truncated in the last version.
This has hopefully been resolved. I also adjusted the page breaking in the
reports to work better on laser printers.
Version 27.0
March 1, 1990
Added a method for those wishing to run FOCKE.EXE in AUTO mode to do so.
You may now run the program without any human interaction, by creating
a batch file with parameters explained below.
** This may be of interest to BBS SysOps wishing to create a little door
that will let a user create a custom report while online, download the
report, and not have to download the entire DCBBmmyy.ZIP file.
Syntax for the AUTO mode:
FOCKE /AUTO [DATA:x,x,x,x,x,x] [SORT:y,y,y] [OUTP:z,z,z,z]
The /AUTO is required to envoke batch or auto mode. All other parmameters
are optional, with defaults the same as when you take default selections
in the interactive mode.
DATA: This will allow you to choose the data set to be acted upon.
Replace the "x"(s) with the filenames (NO EXTENSION) of the
data sets you wish. Up to 6 sets may be selected. Leaving this
parameter off will have the same effect as selecting ALL. Separate
the choices with commas.
DC ........ DC info
VA ........ Virginia Metro
MD ........ Maryland Metro
NMVA ...... Virginia Non-Metro
NMMD ...... Maryland Non-Metro
DOWN ...... Boards listed "down"
SUPPORT ... Product Support boards
SORT: This chooses the sort keys you wish the data sorted on. Up to 3
keys may be chosen, by number from the list below. Again, commas
between choices. Leaving off this parameter will select "1".
1 ......... BBS System's Name
2 ......... VA/DC/MD Area Code
3 ......... HS/MNP Modem Type
4 ......... Exchange & Number
5 ......... BBS Software Type
6 ......... Highest Baud Rate
OUTP: This determines the output formats you wish selected. You may
choose up to 4 report formats, by number from the list below. Put
commas between format choices. Leaving off this parameter will
have the effect of selecting "1".
1 ......... ASCII, No Page Breaks
2 ......... ASCII, Page Breaks
3 ......... ANSI (Color version)
4 ......... ASCII, No Graphics
5 ......... Directly to Printer, No Graphics
The syntax of the command is pretty important. The order is not important
at all, but separating choices with a comma IS. It is also critical that
the parameter catagories themselves be separated by a SPACE. See the
example below.
I have tried to allow for mistakes or omissions, but be assured that at a
minimum you will not get the output you desire if you don't follow the
format above. Remember that choosing /AUTO with no other parameters will
produce a report on ALL data, sorted by BBS NAME, and formatted as ASCII, NO
PAGE BREAKS.
You may of course still use the other "/" parameters as you see fit, whether
running in automatic or interactive mode.
/B ......... Black and White mode
/N ......... New and changed data only
/M ......... Mouse active (ignored in auto mode)
Example:
FOCKE /B /AUTO DATA:MD,VA,DC SORT:5,1 OUTP:1,2
This will cause the program to run automatically in B&W mode, selecting
the MD.DIR, VA.DIR and DC.DIR data sets, sorting by Baud Rate and Name
of BBS, and producing the ASCII reports without and with page breaks.
Version 26.0
Added the commercial support BBS listing to the selection and report formats
see README.1ST for details.
Version 25.0
HAPPY NEW YEAR to one and all! Welcome 1990's!
