INTRODUCTION
VMENU is an interactive menu system generator. VMENU makes it very
easy to create and maintain menus on MS DOS machines. The menus
can be in two different formats and include up to twenty different
options.
INSTALLIATION
VMENU was written for hard disk systems.
Create a seperate sub-directory on your hard disk for the menu system.
EX. ( C:>MD VMENU )
Copy all of the files and programs from the menu system diskette to
the menu system sub-directory.
EX. ( A:>COPY *.* C:\VMENU )
INSTRUCTIONS
Add the following commands to your autoexec.bat file:
PATH=C:\VMENU
SET APPSYS=C:\VMENU
If you use a drive other than "C" or a sub-directory other than
"C:\VMENU" then you will need to make corresponding changes to the
above command statements in order for the system to point to the
correct drive and sub-directory.
Type in VMRUN and hit ENTER, the system logo screen will appear,
press ENTER again to display the VMENU SYSTEM MENU. From this
menu you can creat FIXED FORMAT menus, FREE FORMAT menus, maintain
existing menus, and delete menus.
To create a FIXED FORMAT menu, type in 1 and hit ENTER. A prompt will
be displayed asking the new menu name, the name must follow DOS file
naming conventions(see your DOS manual). Type in the desired name
and hit ENTER, you will then be prompted to customize the FIXED
FORMAT screen. This screen consist of two heading lines that are
sixty characters each, a menu name field that is six characters, and
twenty option fields that allow up to thirty characters for each
option. Complete this screen with your desired text, ( use the TAB
keys to move from field to field ) all fields on this screen are
optional - this is what the user will see durring menu operation.
After the text screen has been completed press ENTER, you will be
prompted for the option commands. These commands are normal DOS
commands, BATCH files, COM, or EXE type files and should correspond to
the options selected on the previous screen. The option command lines
can be up to sixty characters each. You will also need to ENTER a "N"
III
in the REDISPLAY MENU field after each option if you do not want the
menu redisplayed after completion of the operation specified on the
command line (this will default internally to a "Y" and redisplay the
menu after option completion). You may return to the previous prompt
screen by pressing "F9". After all of the command lines have been
entered press ENTER to complete this menu.
To create a FREE FORMAT menu, take option 2 on the VMENU SYSTEM MENU.
The procedure to create a FREE FORMAT menu from this point is the
same as the procedure to create the FIXED FORMAT menu except that the
menu text screen option area is totally user definable ( options can
be any combination of 1 to 20).
To maintain a menu, select option 3 from the VMENU SYSTEM MENU. The
procedure to maintain a menu is the same as the procedure to create
that type of menu either FIXED or FREE FORMAT.
To delete a menu, take option 4 from the VMENU SYSTEM MENU. You will
be prompted for the menu name. Type in the name and press ENTER to
delete the menu.
SPECIFICATIONS
The system was written on a PC compatiable running DOS 3.3. It should
run with DOS 2.1 or higher and require a minimal amount of memory.
The system stores the menu information in a menu file xxxxxx.MEN
where xxxxxx = the user specified menu name in the menu sub-directory.
OPERATION
Type in " VM xxxxxx " at the DOS prompt where xxxxxx = the
menu name and press ENTER. This should display the menu and allow
you to take the options specified on the menu.
This is the third release of this menu system.
If you have any problem or sugestion please call or write. All
sugestions will be considered and all problems will be fixed and
incorporated in the next release, if you send a diskette when you
report the problem then I will return the diskette to you with the
corrected programs after the problem is fixed.
