BASICS
Use UPARROW, DOWNARROW, Home, End, PgUp, PgDn to browse through the files.
To tag or untag a file, press Enter. You can also press SPACE.
Pressing Enter on a subdirectory will change to that subdirectory. To tag
a subdirectory (the only reason to do this is to change its attribute or
name) you must press the SPACE bar. To select an option such as DELETE or
HELP simply press the appropriate function key. If no mouse is installed,
the column to the right of where the files are displayed contains helpful
information. The highlighted letter is the shortcut key for that function.
From DOS, you may type SD or you may specify the filespec. To display only
.BAT files, you would type SD *.BAT. To use the Pull Down Menus, press
the TAB key, LEFTARROW, RIGHTARROW, or ALT + the capital letter on the
top of the screen. Arrow to the desired item, and press Enter to execute
that option. If you wish to toggle the value (like in the sort menu),
press the Space bar. Use the Esc key to exit from pop up windows or sub
menus. Press F10 to display the SD help screen for quick help. You can
tell SD which files you want to see when you run the program. To view
only the *.DOC files in the C:\WORD directory, run SD c:\word\*.doc.
MOUSE
To tag a file, locate the mouse on top of that file and press the
leftmost mouse button. The leftmost mouse button always acts the same
as Enter. The rightmost mouse button always acts as Esc. If you have
a 3 button mouse, the middle button acts the same as the rightmost button.
To change to a different subdirectory, locate on top of that subdirectory
and click the leftmost button. When a mouse is installed, a mouse menu
appears to the right of where the files are displayed. Clicking on
one of these items is the same as pressing the appropriate function
key(s).
To use the pull down menus, click on the menu item desired on the top
row of the screen. Once a menu is displayed, click on the item you wish
to change.

SETUP
The setup is very important to the operation of SD. Press TAB to bring
up the pull down menus. Use the RIGHT ARROW key to move to the SETUP
window. You then use UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW to highlight the item
you want to change. Every line of each pull down menu has one capital
letter. You can also press this letter to move to this item instead of
using the arrow keys. To change the "filespec" or the "display file"
items, press Enter, then enter the desired text, and press Enter again.
To toggle other items, press Enter. To save your changes, highlight
the "save to disk" option and press Enter.
File search options
Filespec : You may select the files SD is to display. The default
is *.* (All files).

networked computers. If you have problems, turn this

instead of reading the .CFG file.

forget to save the setup if you want these changes to be permanent.
Page 5
SPECIAL MOUSE ITEMS
The mouse works just about everywhere. The "mouse menu" is located to
the right of the file list. You can click on any of these items instead
of using the pull down menus.
To go to the top of the file list (HOME), click on "home" in the mouse
menu, or click on the bar immediately above the file list.
To go to the end of the file list (END), click on "end" in the mouse
menu, or click on the bar immediately below the file list.
To go to the middle of the file list, click on the vertical bar to the
left of the file list, near the middle of the screen. You can quickly
view the file list by clicking on different spots to the left of the
file list. Be sure the mouse is in column zero. Clicking near the bottom
of the screen will locate you near the bottom of the file list.
PULL DOWN MENUS
Use the RIGHT ARROW, LEFT ARROW, or TAB key to pop up the pull down menus.
You may also use Alt + D,S,T,O,H,R,P,X to bring up a specific menu. The
menu displayed at the top of the screen has one capital letter in each
word. Press Alt + the capital letter to pop up that menu. If you have
a mouse, click on the word on the top of the screen, and that menu will
pop up.

Page 6
COPY - F1, C
Copy works similarly to the DOS copy command. The copy function key
(F1) will only appear if there are files tagged. Pressing F1 will ask
you where you want to copy the tagged files to.
To copy the tagged files to drive A:, press F1 or C and then type
"A:" and press Enter.
To copy the tagged files to the \WORD directory, press F1 or C and then
type "\WORD" and press Enter.
If you are going to copy the tagged files to a different directory, on
the same disk drive, you may use the tree function. After tagging the
desired files, press F1 or C. Then press ALT T to display the tree
structure of the current drive. Arrow to the directory where you want to
copy the files to, and press Enter.
If the destination disk is full, SD will ask you if you would like to
continue copying the remaining files. You may insert a different disk
at this time if you wish. Pressing Esc will abort the copy process.
If you wish to abort a copy, press Esc.
MOUSE
If you want to copy the tagged files to a floppy disk drive, simply
click on the desired item in the mouse menu (COPY A: etc.).
To copy to a certain subdirectory, click on "Dos" in the pull down menu,
click on "Copy", and then type in the desired drive and/or directory to
copy to, and press Enter.
To use the tree function, instead of typing in the directory to copy to,
click on the lower right portion of the screen, "Alt T = tree" and then
click on the directory to copy to in the tree display.
MOVE - F2, M
Move works the same as copy, except that after the files are copied,
they are deleted.
If you wish to abort a move, press Esc.
Page 7
DELETE - F4, D
Delete erases tagged files. Inside the DOS MENU you can also
specify to erase ALL .BAK files from the entire hard disk. You can
also select DELETE ANY, which asks you for the filespec to delete. If
you wanted to delete all files with .TMP extensions, you would type in
*.TMP as the filespec.
To delete all the tagged files, press F4. A submenu will appear.
Press F1 to invoke the delete procedure. This will only delete the
tagged files. Press F3 to invoke deleting all .BAK files. This deletes
*.BAK files from the ENTIRE DISK.
If you only want to delete .BAK files from the current directory, select
the "delete *.bak - Local" option.
To abort the delete process, press Esc at any time.

A window will open and ask what drive and directory to change to. Enter
the information the same way that you would from the DOS prompt.
If you have been to other drives or directories while running SD, a
menu will appear with the directories you have previously been in. You
can then modify these items.
SHORTCUTS
If the subdirectory you wish to change to is a subdirectory of the
directory you are currently in, you may use the arrow keys to highlight
that subdirectory. Then press Enter to change to that subdirectory.
You may also use the tRee command to quickly change directory. Press T
to invoke the tRee command. A listing of all the subdirectories on the
disk will appear. Highlight the subdirectory you would like to change
to and press Enter.
MOUSE
To change to a subdirectory of the current directory, click on the
subdirectory you wish to change to. If you want to change to a
different disk drive, you may click on that selection in the mouse
menu, if it exists.
Click on the "tRee" entry in the pull down menu. Click on "display Tree".

The tree function displays the layout of your hard disk in graphics form.
You may then use the arrow keys to move up and down in the display.
Pressing Enter will change directories to the highlighted directory.
Up to 15 disk drives are supported. The tree structure is saved to a
file called SD.CFG. This file is saved in the same directory as SD.EXE if
you have DOS >= 3.0. Drives A and B are not saved in the .CFG file. If
you change your hard disks directory structure, you must press
'R'eread tree to redo the .CFG file.
Use PgUp, PgDn, Home, End, UPARROW and DOWNARROW to move thru the
display. Press Enter to change to the highlighted subdirectory.
Press Esc to stop viewing the tree structure.

TYPE FILE - F8, Y
This option "TYPE"s the highlighted file. This is the same as the DOS
TYPE command. TYPE is not the best program ever written for displaying
files. If you have a better program, you may enter this in the SETUP
window. Your program will then be invoked instead of TYPE. (See setup)
MOUSE
Click on the "Dos" pull down menu. Then click on "tYpe file".
