I. WHAT IS REVELATION TUTORIAL?
REVELATION TUTORIAL
is a unique Bible Study tool
which provides a solid overview
of this intriguing but enigmatic book.
REVELATION TUTORIAL
is written for individuals who have little background
with the Bible book of Revelation,
as well as for those who wish to review
what they already know from a fresh perspective.

II. HOW IS IT USED?
All work is done directly on the computer,
with no pencil or typewriter work required.
Clear and complete instructions are included on-screen.
You will need a copy of the
New International Version of the Bible
(other versions will produce some inconsistencies).
The TUTORIAL is programmed in color,
using color combinations which are also
easily legible in monochrome.
REVELATION TUTORIAL
provides Answer Windows for all questions
(after, of course, you have committed yourself to an answer!)
III. THE PEDAGOGY of REVELATION TUTORIAL
1. Objective-type Questions
REVELATION TUTORIAL employs a variety of objective type
exercises: multiple choice, true/false, fill-in, matching, etc.
Most of these exercises are factual in nature, designed to
acquaint you with the Biblical data. However, interspersed,
there are also interpretive type questions which require you
to make personal judgments about the material being studied.
2. Clear Instructions
Highlighted instructions provide specific guidance for the
entry you are required to make; e.g. enter letters or numbers.
A flashing cursor will indicate where the answer will appear,
usually in a box. After you enter your answer from the
keyboard, the cursor will automatically move to the next
question. You cannot control the cursor from the keyboard.
3. Answer Windows
Each screen of exercises is matched by an Answer Window. After
you have completed all the exercises on the screen, you will be
prompted to press the F1 and ENTER keys. The Answer Window
will immediately appear on-screen adjacent to the answers you
have provided. You will then be prompted to press the ENTER
key again, after which the screen will be cleared and the next
screen of exercises will appear.

4. `HOMILY' Screens
From time to time, when circumstances warrant, a screen is
dedicated to a cogent summation of the material being studied.
These screens, clearly labeled HOMILY , provide focus for data
previously examined on-screen, and are interpretive in nature.
5. Projects
REVELATION TUTORIAL is organized into ten sections, called
`Sessions,' listed earlier in this Documentation. You may not
be able to complete any given project in one session (the
longest one contains twenty screens). However, provision is
made for re-entering a Session anywhere you discontinued
earlier (see `Function Key 5' below).
6. Self-Test
The last Session is a Self-Test covering all the preceding
Sessions. Pedagogical techniques are the same, with the
exception of one major addition: the Cumulative Report. After
the Answer Window appears for each screen, a Cumulative Report
also appears. This will show your progress in the test: the
number of questions and the number of correct answers. Please
note that only two of the normal five Function Keys are
available for the Self-Test. The only way to go back to a
previous answer is to begin the entire test over!
7. Self-Test Certificate
After you have completed the Self-Test, the computer will
display a certificate of your achievement. This certificate
will show your name, the current date, your grade on the test,
and, if applicable, the honors status (summa cum laude, magna
cum laude, or cum laude). If you wish a printed record of your
achievement, you can usually get a printout (providing you have
suitable equipment) thus:
while the Certificate is on-screen,
turn on your printer,
hold down the Shift key,
press the Print key.
4
IV. THE FUNCTION KEYS
(NOTE: only F2 and F3 are available for the Self-Test.)
1. F1 ANSWER WINDOW
Each question screen comes with its own Answer Window. When you
complete the questions on each screen, you are prompted to call
up the Answer Window. Press the F1 key, then ENTER , and the
Answer Window will appear on-screen to provide a check on your
answers.
2. F2 RETURN TO DOS
You may exit REVELATION TUTORIAL at any given point by
pressing F2 , then ENTER .
3. F3 MENU
Use the F3 key, then ENTER , whenever you wish to access the
original REVELATION TUTORIAL Menu.
4. F4 RESTART SCREEN
Each question screen has a Restart capability. Unfortunately,
it is possible to goof up any given question screen, either by
making incorrect entries, or by inadvertently pressing wrong
keys. When this happens, you may erase the screen and begin it
again simply by pressing the F4 key and then ENTER .
5. F5 ADVANCED RE-ENTRY
If you must interrupt your progress before completing a Session,
you may find your place next time by using the F5 key:
a. Record the screen number upon exiting.
b. Re-enter the Project in the normal manner.
c. Press F5 then ENTER . This will display a box
in which you are asked to enter a screen number.
d. Enter the number of the screen you desire,
then press ENTER .
(NOTE: the F5 key may be used to travel to any screen in a
Session whenever you wish.)

V. MISCELLANEOUS MATTERS
1. Bible Version
The New International Version of the Bible (NIV) is used
throughout this Tutorial; more specifically, `The NIV Study
Bible.' This version of the Bible has been sponsored by the New
York Bible Society, and published by the Zondervan Corporation.
You will need a copy of this version of the Bible to do the
exercises in this and subsequent tutorials.
2. Writing and Programming
REVELATION TUTORIAL was prepared on a Tandy 1000 computer,
using QuickSoft's shareware word-processing software PC-WRITE,
and compiled by Borland's TURBO BASIC. The author of both the
lessons and the programming is Rev. Edwin Walhout, D.Min., a
retired minister of the Christian Reformed Church, now living in
Grand Rapids, Michigan.
3. Other Tutorials Available
REVELATION SOFTWARE offers tutorials for the entire set of
Paul's letters. We recommend highly that you study these
letters in the sequence he wrote them, in order to understand
the historical background for each. Much light can be shed on
Paul's meaning by examining his reasons for writing as he did.
