reviewed by Phil Lindner
Having a Bible search program on a computer means never
having to search through a concordance again. Any word or
phrase can be located in a second or two, and automatically
typed onto paper or into a word processor. It's a time saver
for any Bible student with an IBM compatible computer and a hard
drive. Hundreds of pastors and missionaries use it regularly.
Computer Bibles used to cost hundreds of dollars. The
Online Bible is unique in that it may be freely copied and costs
only a small disk copying fee for the complete King James Version.
Surprisingly, it performs better than many commercial programs.
The New International Version (NIV) and Revised Standard
Version (RSV) texts may NOT be copied, but are available at
modest cost from ROCKware 1-800-243-7124. A modern Spanish
text is available and other translations are planned.
A strong feature of Online is its 572,000 instant cross
references, which work like the center-column references in an
extremely large study Bible. At the touch of a key, up to 30 or
more related verses appear onscreen.
Another touch of a key makes the well-known Strong's numbers
appear after every significant word in the King James Version.
A Lexicon option permits popping up English definitions of every
Greek or Hebrew word. You do not need to know Greek and Hebrew,
just type in the Strong's number!
A text editor is supplied for saving your personal notes and
commentary on each verse. The editor is also handy for writing
sermons and Bible studies while the Bible program is loaded. A
memory resident program was recently added to permit direct
typing of verses into larger word processors such as WordPerfect.
The Online Bible is sold by various "shareware" dealers and
distributors. But there is no registration or fee required
beyond the cost of acquiring the disks. Canadian author Larry
Pierce welcomes others to copy and distribute the latest
version "for the glory of God."
The installation is automated and practically foolproof.
You will need anywhere from 3 to 10 megabytes of hard disk
space, depending on the number of texts and options loaded.
Telephone help is available (517-369-6035) as well as a printed
manual.
