  5. Abbott:   Well Costello, I'm going to New York with you. The Yankee's manager
  6.           gave me a job as coach for as long as your on the team.
  7. Costello: Look Abbott, if your the coach, you must know all the players.
  8. Abbott:   I certainly do.
  9. Costello: Well you know I've never met the guys. So you'll have to tell me
  10.           their names, and then I'll know who's playing on the team.
  11. Abbott:   Oh, I'll tell you their names, but you know it seems to me they give
  12.           these ball players now-a-days very peculiar names.
  13. Costello: You mean funny names?
  14. Abbott:   Strange names, pet names...like Dizzy Dean...
  15. Costello: His brother Daffy
  16. Abbott:   Daffy Dean...
  17. Costello: And their French cousin.
  18. Abbott:   French?
  19. Costello: Goofe'
  20. Abbott:   Goofe' Dean. Well, let's see, we have on the bags, Who's on first,
  21.           What's on second, I Don't Know is on third...
  22. Costello: That's what I want to find out.
  23. Abbott:   I say Who's on first, What's on second, I Don't Know's on third.
  24. Costello: Are you the manager?
  25. Abbott:   Yes.
  26. Costello: You gonna be the coach too?
  27. Abbott:   Yes.
  28. Costello: And you don't know the fellows' names.
  29. Abbott:   Well I should.
  30. Costello: Well then who's on first?
  31. Abbott:   Yes.
  32. Costello: I mean the fellow's name.
  33. Abbott:   Who.
  34. Costello: The guy on first.
  35. Abbott:   Who.
  36. Costello: The first baseman.
  37. Abbott:   Who.
  38. Costello: The guy playing...
  39. Abbott:   Who is on first!
  40. Costello: I'm asking you who's on first.
  41. Abbott:   That's the man's name.
  42. Costello: That's who's name?
  43. Abbott:   Yes.
  44. Costello: Well go ahead and tell me.
  45. Abbott:   That's it.
  46. Costello: That's who?
  47. Abbott:   Yes.

  51. Costello: Look, you gotta first baseman?
  52. Abbott:   Certainly.
  53. Costello: Who's playing first?
  54. Abbott:   That's right.
  55. Costello: When you pay off the first baseman every month, who gets the money?
  56. Abbott:   Every dollar of it.
  57. Costello: All I'm trying to find out is the fellow's name on first base.
  58. Abbott:   Who.
  59. Costello: The guy that gets...
  60. Abbott:   That's it.
  61. Costello: Who gets the money...
  62. Abbott:   He does, every dollar of it. Sometimes his wife comes down and coll-
  63.           ects it.
  64. Costello: Who's wife?
  65. Abbott:   Yes.

  69. Abbott:   What's wrong with that?
  70. Costello: Look, all I wanna know is when you sign up the first baseman, how
  71.           does he sign his name?
  72. Abbott:   Who.
  73. Costello: The guy.
  74. Abbott:   Who.
  75. Costello: How does he sign...
  76. Abbott:   That's how he signs it.
  77. Costello: Who?
  78. Abbott:   Yes.

  82. Costello: All I'm trying to find out is what's the guys name on first base.
  83. Abbott:   No. What is on second base.
  84. Costello: I'm not asking you who's on second.
  85. Abbott:   Who's on first.
  86. Costello: One base at a time!
  87. Abbott:   Well, don't change the players around.
  88. Costello: I'm not changing nobody!
  89. Abbott:   Take it easy, buddy.
  90. Costello: I'm only asking you, who's the guy on first base?
  91. Abbott:   That's right.
  92. Costello: Ok.
  93. Abbott:   Alright.

  98. Abbott:   No. What is on second.
  99. Costello: I'm not asking you who's on second.
  100. Abbott:   Who's on first.
  101. Costello: I don't know.
  102. Abbott:   He's on third, we're not talking about him.
  103. Costello: Now how did I get on third base?
  104. Abbott:   Why you mentioned his name.
  105. Costello: If I mentioned the third baseman's name, who did I say is playing
  106.           third?
  107. Abbott:   No. Who's playing first.
  108. Costello: What's on base?
  109. Abbott:   What's on second.
  110. Costello: I don't know.
  111. Abbott:   He's on third.
  112. Costello: There I go, back on third again!

  116. Costello: Would you just stay on third base and don't go off it.
  117. Abbott:   Alright, what do you want to know?
  118. Costello: Now who's playing third base?
  119. Abbott:   Why do you insist on putting Who on third base?
  120. Costello: What am I putting on third.
  121. Abbott:   No. What is on second.
  122. Costello: You don't want who on second?
  123. Abbott:   Who is on first.
  124. Costello: I don't know.
  125. Together: Third base!

  129. Costello: Look, you gotta outfield?
  130. Abbott:   Sure.
  131. Costello: The left fielder's name?
  132. Abbott:   Why.
  133. Costello: I just thought I'd ask you.
  134. Abbott:   Well, I just thought I'd tell ya.
  135. Costello: Then tell me who's playing left field.
  136. Abbott:   Who's playing first.
  137. Costello: I'm not...stay out of the infield!!! I want to know what's the
  138.           guy's name in left field?
  139. Abbott:   No, What is on second.
  140. Costello: I'm not asking you who's on second.
  141. Abbott:   Who's on first!
  142. Costello: I don't know.
  143. Together: Third base!

  145. PAUSE

  147. Costello: The left fielder's name?
  148. Abbott:   Why.
  149. Costello: Because!
  150. Abbott:   Oh, he's center field.

  154. Costello: Look, You gotta pitcher on this team?
  155. Abbott:   Sure.
  156. Costello: The pitcher's name?
  157. Abbott:   Tomorrow.
  158. Costello: You don't want to tell me today?
  159. Abbott:   I'm telling you now.
  160. Costello: Then go ahead.
  161. Abbott:   Tomorrow!
  162. Costello: What time?
  163. Abbott:   What time what?
  164. Costello: What time tomorrow are you gonna tell me who's pitching?
  165. Abbott:   Now listen. Who is not pitching.
  166. Costello: I'll break your arm if you say who's on first!!! I want to know
  167.           what's the pitcher's name?
  168. Abbott:   What's on second.
  169. Costello: I don't know.
  170. Together: Third base!

  174. Costello: Gotta a catcher?
  175. Abbott:   Certainly.
  176. Costello: The catcher's name?
  177. Abbott:   Today.
  178. Costello: Today, and tomorrow's pitching.
  179. Abbott:   Now you've got it.
  180. Costello: All we got is a couple of days on the team.

  182. PAUSE

  184. Costello: You know I'm a catcher too.
  185. Abbott:   So they tell me.
  186. Costello: I get behind the plate to do some fancy catching, Tomorrow's pitch-
  187.           ing on my team and a heavy hitter gets up. Now the heavy hitter
  188.           bunts the ball. When he bunts the ball, me, being a good catcher,
  189.           I'm gonna throw the guy out at first. So I pick up the ball and
  190.           throw it to who?
  191. Abbott:   Now that's the first thing you've said right.
  192. Costello: I don't even know what I'm talking about!

  196. Abbott:   That's all you have to do.
  197. Costello: Is to throw the ball to first base.
  198. Abbott:   Yes!
  199. Costello: Now who's got it?
  200. Abbott:   Naturally.

  204. Costello: Look, if I throw the ball to first base, somebody's gotta get it.
  205.           Now who has it?
  206. Abbott:   Naturally.
  207. Costello: Who?
  208. Abbott:   Naturally.
  209. Costello: Naturally?
  210. Abbott:   Naturally.
  211. Costello: So I pick up the ball and I throw it to Naturally.
  212. Abbott:   No you don't you throw the ball to Who.
  213. Costello: Naturally.
  214. Abbott:   That's different.
  215. Costello: That's what I said.
  216. Abbott:   Your not saying it...
  217. Costello: I throw the ball to Naturally.
  218. Abbott:   You throw it to Who.
  219. Costello: Naturally.
  220. Abbott:   That's it.
  221. Costello: That's what I said!
  222. Abbott:   You ask me.
  223. Costello: I throw the ball to who?
  224. Abbott:   Naturally.
  225. Costello: Now you ask me.
  226. Abbott:   You throw the ball to Who?
  227. Costello: Naturally.
  228. Abbott:   That's it.
  229. Costello: Same as you! Same as YOU!!! I throw the ball to who. Whoever it is
  230.           drops the ball and the guy runs to second. Who picks up the ball
  231.           and throws it to What. What throws it to I Don't Know. I Don't Know
  232.           throws it back to Tomorrow, Triple play. Another guy gets up and
  233.           hits a long fly ball to Because. Why? I don't know! He's on third
  234. and I don't give a darn!
  235. Abbott:   What?
  236. Costello: I said I don't give a darn!
  237. Abbott:   Oh, that's our shortstop.
