History of Tactical - The Tactical Starfleet Simulator
------------------------------------------------------
(1.00b) - First Beta Release (07/19/91)
(Tested by Stephen Lobrano)
(1.05b) - Bugs in torpedos, pursue, elude, save game and (07/20/91)
load saved game commands fixed.
(1.10b) - Weapons ranges vary from ship class to ship (07/21/91)
class, as does manuverability. Now, when firing
phasers, you have a better chance of hitting if
you are close to the target. (All three
recommended by Benjamin Adams.) Bug in
self-destruct causing wrong shield to be damaged
fixed. Bug in phasers causing all phaser hits to
have the damage they caused squared fixed. (No
wonder it was so easy to destroy a ship!)
(Tested by Andrew Palmer and Jason Dittmer)
(1.11b) - Self Destructs may now be aborted. (07/22/91)
(Recommended by Stephen Lobrano)
(1.13b) - Bug in "Illegal Command" subroutine causing (07/22/91)
unpredictable results inside of the scan command
due to a conflicting variable fixed. Bug in
screen displays causing two ships which are on
the exact same Y location to have one dissapear
from the map fixed.
(1.16b) - Bug causing problems in Pursue, Elude, and (07/22/91)
torpedo movement fixed. Bug causing stress
damage to be displayed as other types of
damage fixed. Bug in shield regeneration
in which a starship with less than 10 power
units in a certain shield arc will have their
shields returned to full power fixed.
(Tested by Benjamin Adams)
(1.22b) - Bug in Distance subroutine causing ships to (07/23/91)
be farther away in the computer's mind than
they actually are fixed. Bug in phasers
causing the wrong shield to be weakened
fixed. Bug in Cargo where if you lose all
the cargo in your ship, next time you
are hit by a phaser or torp the program
gives a division by zero error fixed.
Photon torpedos and Plasma now move faster
to make them harder to avoid. When you place
ships, you will now be asked what heading the
ship shall have at the beginning of the
simulation. Cargo and Crew losses now depend
on the superstructure of the ship rather than
being totally random. (Recommended by Benjamin
Adams.)
(Tested by Benjamin Adams)
(1.24b) - Bug in phasers hitting the wrong shields (07/23/91)
fixed AGAIN, there was a bug in the fix of
1.22. Major bug in Plasma where Plasma torps
are thought to be regular torps fixed. (How
did I miss that?) Cloaked ships now much
harder to detect.
(1.27b) - Bug in phasers hitting the wrong shields (07/24/91)
is REALLY FIXED now, I swear. Fire command
shows disruptors now when you select to
have a Klingon fire since Klingons have
disruptors, not phasers (Recommended by
Benjamin Adams). Bug in which ships having
no torpedos and no plasma had torpedos
listed on the initial fire selection fixed.
(1.29b) - In the firing arc information on the main (07/24/91)
screen display the "Pha" for phasers will
now be a "Dis" for Klingons with disruptors.
Also, there is now a yellow circle on the
border of the main tactical screen which
shows your heading, where the upper-left
corner is 315 degrees, upper right is 45,
etc. (Recommended by Stephen Lobrano).
(1.30b) - Bug fixed in which an error occurs when you (07/24/91)
try to fire at a ship which is in the same
sector you are in.
(Tested by Stephen Lobrano and Jason Dittmer)
(1.50b) - ONE PLAYER OPTION ADDED. Bug in Pursue and (08/05/91)
Elude commands fixed. Grid added to Tactical
display window. Heading Changes no longer take
up a turn (Recommended by Stephen Lobrano).
Bug in which the fire command thinks your ship's
weapon range is the enemy ship's range fixed.
Bug which lets a ship fire at a cloaked ship
fixed. "K'Tanga" class Klingon changed to
"K'T'Inga" class (shoulda check my booklet...)
Program Split into several files to make way
for one player option.
(Tested by Benjamin Adams and Stephen Lobrano)
(1.54b) - Bug in one player option in which the computer (08/06/91)
stops starships when they get within 1000
kilometers of an enemy ship and then the
computer keeps having them stopped every turn
after that fixed. Bug in damage control
routines in which if a ship's system drops
below 10 unpredictable results may occur
fixed. Bug in which a computer controlled
ship may say "Pursing the" and no ship name
fixed. New title screen added. Lefthand
status window now updates during computer's
turn.
(Tested by Jason Dittmer)
(1.58b) - Computer Controlled ships will now rotate (08/07/91)
themselves to fire at a ship using the
firing arc with the best weapons/shields.
Bug in which random characters came on the
screen when the computer fires torpedos
fixed. Bug in computer controlled firing
where a ship's heading becomes the heading
the ship fires in order to hit the targer fixed.
Computer Controlled ships will now retreat
from battle or go to repair tenders if all
their weapons or all their shields are
destroyed.
(1.60b) - Bug causing the ship shillouettes in the (08/07/91)
shield box to be garbled fixed. Bug causing
a ship's superstructure points to be higher
than it was before being hit fixed.
(Tested by Jason Dittmer, Paul Lim, and
Benjamin Adams)
(1.64b) - Bug causing the location of cloaked ships (08/07/91)
to be revealed in the PLACE command and the
ship selection subroutine fixed. The yellow
circle around the tactical display showing
heading removed during computer's turn.
Pursuits and Elusions may now be "repetitive",
where each turn the computer will automatically
adjust your heading to stay on course each
turn (Recommended by Stephen Lobrano).
Text box no longer clears when a computer
controlled ship fires a weapon.
(1.66b) - Bug causing a "max range for that weapon is (08/08/91)
(whatever) kilometers" to show up when you
hit "Q" in the ship selection window of the
fire command fixed. Bug in which your max
warp speed shows up as 0 in the Warp Speed
command fixed.
(Tested by Benjamin Adams, Stephen Lobrano,
and Timothy O'Brien)
(1.75b) - Gorn, Orion, and Free Traders added. (08/08/91)
(Thanks to Benjamin Adams for the starship
data.)
(1.76b) - The chance of losing a firing arc when hit (08/09/91)
on the hull now depends on your superstructure
rather than being totally random.
(1.79b) - Bug causing ships firing a weapon which does (08/10/91)
very little damage to do no damage fixed.
One-Time Pursuit option eliminated. Bug in
computer self-destructs causing the screen to
clear and the word "hey" to appear (!?) fixed.
(Tested by Timothy O'Brien)
(1.80b) - Bug causing a number to appear in the text (08/13/91)
if there is a tie game fixed.
(Tested by Benjamin Adams)
(2.00b) - SHIP CLASS EDITOR/CREATOR now available (08/14/91)
for registered owners of Tactical. All
game files re-structured for compatibility
with the class editor. The display screen
will no longer update when the computer
moves a cloaked ship. (Suggested by
Stephen Lobrano)
(Tested by Benjamin Adams)
(2.04b) - Bug in second page of the selection screen (08/15/91)
not allowing you to select any ships fixed.
Bug where you make a ship cloaked at the
start of the game causing all other ships
to be cloaked at start fixed. Bug in Class
Editor Module not allowing Phaser range to
be greater than 20,000 fixed. Ship Class
Editor may now be invoked from within the
tactical main program.
(2.05b) - Title Picture added to Class Editor Module. (08/16/91)
(2.06b) - Fixed bug in One Player Option causing the (08/16/91)
computer to skip all ships which came after
a destroyed ship.
(Tested by Benjamin Adams)
(2.11b) - Fixed bug causing overlapping displays in (08/17/91)
the computer's movement display window.
Bug causing computer to enlessly try to move
immobile ships fixed. Bug in Class Editor
Module not allowing you to make a defense
outpost immobile fixed. Bug causing the
screen saying that the ship is immobile when
you try to move it to not work right fixed.
Bug not decreasing your warp speed when you're
damaged and your warp speed goes down fixed.
Bug in designer not adding extra space to the
class info line if the ship's number is below
10 fixed.
(Tested by Benjamin Adams and Eddie Brown)
(2.16b) - Fixed bug causing Repair Tenders made with the (08/17/91)
Class Editor to not be able to repair anything.
Bug causing "you're here already" to appear in
the turn change after initiating repairs fixed.
Bug causing "max range is (etc) kilometers" to
appear during the computer's turn fixed. Gorn
ships now are shown to have blasters instead of
phasers because Gorns have blasters, not phasers.
Bug in which Klingons made with the Class Editor
were shown as having phasers instead of
disruptors fixed.
(Tested by Charles McCoy, Timothy O'Brien,
Benjamin Adams and James Abbott)
(2.17b) - Bug causing "file not open error" in Info (08/18/91)
command (part of place command) fixed.
(2.18b) - If a computer controlled ship is severely (08/18/91)
damaged, not bad enough to self-destruct
but bad enough to elude, and has no warp
capability, it will fight to the death.
(2.20b) - Warp Drive damage now depends on your hull (08/19/91)
superstructure rather than being totally
random. Firing arc damage now relies more
heavily upon superstructure.
(Tested by Timothy O'Brien)
(2.21b) - Place command option which lets you make a (08/19/91)
ship cloaked initially not working due to
a bug fixed.
(2.23b) - Bug in which the computer thought ships with (08/19/91)

(2.30) - Place command screen display altered to show (08/24/91)
the total WDF of all ships, the odds of
winning for each fleet, the number of ships,
computer/human control and fleet ship type.
(Recommended by Benjamin Adams)
(2.31) - Turn number now shows up on the main game (08/24/91)
display to the left of the Range setting.
(Recommended by Benjamin Adams)
