PTLEVELS.ZIP
══════════════
Judging from the number of downloads of PTOMB.ZIP, I can only
wonder at the hoard of computer gamesters out there by now who are:
1. Wondering where they got a streak of masochism;
2. Feeling like clumsy fools;
3. Spewing around a good bit of profanity;
4. Cursing whoever wrote this maddening unwinnable game;
5. Wishing they'd never seen or heard of the thing;
6. Thumbing through Computer Shopper for a new keyboard or monitor to
replace the one they put their fist through after having to restart
the deceptively vicious Queen's Chamber for the 27th time;
7. Ready to stomp to death anything in sight.
I certainly don't profess to be a hardened game player, but I
seriously doubt that there is a human being alive who can get through a
dozen consecutive levels of this wonderfully sadistic game without
having to restart it.
Take heart, kids, especially if you're among those naive souls
who thought they could actually get good enough to start AT THE PYRAMID
and work their way up through the levels without having to restart the
game and plow boring old ground a thousand times just to get back to the
level they died on.
While I'm sure many of you had the cleverness to save each new
level and rename its .SAV file when you finally got past the previous one,
I'm also just as sure a lot of you didn't.
Well, I did and they're all right here in this little .ZIP file.
Now you can reload any level you want to play -- time after time, to
your heart's content, ad nauseum.
And you can do it simply by selecting a level from a menu and
pressing its letter. The batch file PT.BAT does all the file copying to
replace the old PTOMB1.SAV file for you.
I personally do not intend to be a party to any of this
foolishness myself.
I consider these .SAV files nothing more than trifling trophies
of a time-wasting three-day expedition frought with anger, frustration,
a slightly damaged keyboard, drinks thrown, glasses broken.
But it was fun.
Anyway, here's how to use the setup:
Copy all these files into your PTOMB directory. The directory
must be named PTOMB for the batch file to work or you must make the
necessary changes in PT.BAT to reflect what directory you're using.
Get the batch file up in an ASCII text editor and replace this entry with
the name of your directory in all occurences. │
┌────────────────────┘
copy anubis.sav c:\ptomb\ptomb1.sav
Start the batch file with:
pt [enter]
When the menu appears, just press the letter for the level you
want.
PT.BAT will then copy that .SAV file back into your game
directory with the new filename PTOMB1.SAV, which the program looks for.
The batch file will then start the game. Get to the first
level -- At the Pyramid -- and press "R" for restore game.
To select a new level, quit out of the game and the menu will
reappear. To get out of the whole thing, hit ESC at the menu.
Here are the filenames for the different levels:
1. -- FIRST LEVEL -- At the Pyramid (Obviously, there was no need to
save this first level. Selecting
it on the menu simply starts the
game.
2. -- ANTEROOM.SAV -- The Anteroom
3. -- SOULS.SAV -- The Well of Souls
4. -- ISIS.SAV -- The Chamber of Isis
5. -- GRAND.SAV -- The Grand Gallery
