Instructions for PC-RR and PC-NEWRR
-----------------------------------
Unfortunately, PC-RR and PCNEW-RR were not provided documentation by the
author. So, here is some help to get you started.
PC-RR
-----
Bring up the list of RR routes (with the L key) and select which route
you wish to run. When the route is displayed, hit right cursor arrow to
activate railroads. The letters SP will be displayed on the bottom of the
screen, along with a + or - speed factor. Each SP symbol corresponds to
a train on the route. Use Function keys to move trains and to change their
speed. For example, F1 will move one train. Press it again to increase the
speed which will be indicated by the number (1 to 3) after the SP. Press
F2 to decrease the speed. Several more presses will reverse the train's
direction. All ten function keys are operational for these purposes.
Letters are indicated at certain connecting points on the route. Pressing
a particular letter will switch the tracks. Some routes also indicate symbols
like '>' as well as letters for track switching. You can toggle these letters
and symbols to switch the tracks back and forth.
Experiment with these functions and you will eventually get the hang of it.
PC-NEWRR
--------
PC-NEWRR is a custom route design program. To create your own route, type
PC-NEWRR and turn the Caps Lock on. To draw your route, press D (pen down)
- use the arrow, home, pgup, end and pgdown keys for straight and diagonal
lines. You can press U for pen up at any time. Press E to erase.
When you are through drawing, type a colon (:), and you will be prompted to
place your trains (maximum of 5). Move the cursor with the arrow keys to the
position you wish to place your first train and press 1. Repeat for additonal
trains (press 2, 3, 4, 5). While in this mode you can also install switches.
Move the cursor to any "legitimate" switch point on the route and press the
ESCAPE key. Repeat for additional switches. Note that if you attempt to install
a switch at an point which is not legitimate, the program will ignore your
attempt.
When you are finished with the placements and switch installments, type in
another colon (:) to save your work. Enter a route name when prompted.
That's all there is to it.
