Nifty James' Quoter
NJQUOTER prints a "quote of the day" message on your monitor
whenever you run the program. It's fun to include the command
NJQUOTER in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. By doing that, you'll see a
new quote each time you boot up your computer.
The program reads the QUOTES.QUT file at a random spot and finds a
quote in the file to print. To insure that a different item is
printed each time, be sure that you correctly set the date and time
when you boot your system.
The program looks for the QUOTES.QUT file in the root directory of
the C: drive. If you want to use another drive or directory,
you'll have to reflect that in the command you give to call the
program.
The file, NJQUOTER.EXE, should be either on the floppy disk you
boot with, in the root directory of your hard disk, or in a
directory contained in your PATH statement.
If you'd like to use a file other than C:\QUOTES.QUT for your quote
file, you can specify it on the command line. For example,
NJQUOTER A:\LIST.TXT
would select a quote from A:\LIST.TXT.
The file QUOTES.QUT included here is a sample file of quotations.
You'll probably want to create your own file of quotes, or add to
this one. Use an ASCII text editor, like SLED, or your word
processor. Be sure to save the file as a non-document file or an
unformatted file. It must be a pure ASCII file.
The quotes file should contain a list of quotes. Each quote
should be separated by a line with a tilde (~~~) and nothing else on
it. Use the QUOTES.QUT file included here as a sample.
