  1.    This is PC NetHack version 2.2 + some features and bug-fixes to be
  2. included in version 2.3. Please send any bug reports on this particular
  3. distribution to me at the address below.

  5.    This distribution should contain the following files:

  8.     HELP
  9.     HH
  10.     NANSI.SYS
  11.     NETHACK.CNF
  12.     NETHACK.EXE
  13.     README (this file)
  14.     RECORD (empty file)
  15.     RUMORS
  16.     TERMCAP

  18.    To set up for your system:
  19.  
  20. - Create a directory on which to keep NetHack. This directory is referred
  21.   to as "hackdir" and its default value is c:\games\nethack.
  22. - Copy the following files to that directory:
  23.     DATA
  24.     HELP
  25.     HH
  26.     NETHACK.EXE
  27.     RECORD
  28.     RUMORS
  29. - Put NETHACK.CNF somewhere in your path.
  30. - Put ANSI.SYS (included with DOS) or NANSI.SYS somewhere on your system,
  31.   and put into your CONFIG.SYS file the following: "device=ansi.sys" (or
  32.   "nansi.sys").
  33. - Edit NETHACK.CNF to set the appropriate name, dogname, hackdir, system
  34.   configuration, and anything else you may want to change.
  35. - Copy TERMCAP to C:\ETC\TERMCAP, or else rename it to TERMCAP.CNF, and put
  36.   it somewhere in your path. (Sorry about the inconsistency in the name.)
  37. - Choose the termcap entry from the TERMCAP file that best suits your
  38.   system, and put into your autoexec.bat the line "set TERM=entry", where
  39.   "entry" is "ansi-color", "nansi-mono", etc.
