THE MYSTIC DRAGON
-----------------
Getting Started
---------------
Type MYSTIC followed by [ENTER] to begin.
Exploration
-----------
The Mystic Dragon contains a three dimensional dungeon that you will
explore as you attempt to find the mystical golden dragon. While you are
peacefully exploring your main commands are:
F to move forward,
R to turn right,
L to turn left,
M to display a map of where you've been,
C to cast a spell, and
S to display your adventurer's status.
The going is fairly easy at first, but gets progressively harder as you
go down deeper into the lair of the mystical dragon. I wouldn't go much deeper
than the 20th level of the dungeon before reaching at least 5th level as an
adventurer.
Combat
------
The life of an adventurer is not easy. Roughly 100 kinds of vile and
ferocious monsters wait to pounce on you when you least expect it. During
combat your commands are:
A to attack the monster,
W to withdraw (retreat!), and
C to cast spells.
Be sure to watch your hit points -- when you're out of hit points,
you die. It is possible to be raised from the dead, but such works of magic
are expensive! If your adventurer doesn't have the price, his or her very
name will be obliterated from the disk of life.
Casting Spells
--------------
Casting spells takes power. You can see how many spell points your
adventurer has left by using the Status command (but not during combat).
Spell points are regain (slowly) during normal exploration, but not during
combat. As your adventurer gains levels of experience additional spell points
will also be acquired. Some spells cannot be cast by low level adventurers,
as the power required is too great.
During exploration the available spells are:
CURE to restore some of your lost hit points,
HEAL to restore almost all lost hit points,
TELE to teleport to another area,
TIME to change the speed that messages go by,
SAVE to save the game (does not end your game), and
END to call it quits (also saves your status).
During combat the available spells are:
CURE to restore some of your lost hit points,
HEAL to restore almost all lost hit points,
MM to cast magic missles,
FIRE to cast a fireball,
FROST to cast a cone of ice shards, and
NUKE to annihilate your foes! (a costly spell)
Words of Wisdom
---------------
Some areas of the dungeon may seem sealed off from you when you first
go thru them. Trust me, there are ways in. You should be forewarned that
withdrawing from combat sends your adventurer off in mindless panic, and there
is no telling where he or she will end up. The map will show the point your
adventurer ran from as well as his or her new location, but not until he or she
has moved a few steps forward. Teleporting often makes one rather dizzy also.
Finally, when things look darkest (for instance, from the inside of a red
dragon's stomach), just remember the motto of the noble Adventurers' Guild:
"Do you want to live forever?" (Chorus: "You bet -- let's get out of here!")
