MONTEST Version 2.00
MONTEST is a collection of routines that I have been using for quite a
while now, put together into a single utility. It can be used for
adjusting most of the circuits in a color or monochrome monitor. A
graphics adapter is not required, however you must be able to display
the extended character set included with most current personal computers.
* NOTE *
Do not attempt to adjust the B+ voltage or the high voltage supply to the
picture tube using this utility. These adjustments should only be attempted
if the correct service equipment is available, and you have access to service
information listing the correct settings for these voltages. Incorrectly
setting these voltages can result in excessive X-ray emission and can be
hazardous to your health.
Available options are:
Crosshatch (grid pattern)
Dots
Red screen
Green screen
Blue screen
NTSC color bars
Crosshatch and dots are very useful for adjusting convergence (aiming the
beams inside of the picture tube so there are no colored shadows around
the text displayed on your screen.) Also the crosshatch pattern may be
used to adjust pincushion (the sides, top, or bottom of the display bowing
in toward the center or out toward the edges of the screen.) The dot
pattern can also be a good one to use for focusing your monitor.
The colored screens are useful for setting purity and making sure the tube
is properly degaussed. If there is any discoloration on the display when
one of the solid color screens are displayed. It is an indication that
the tube may need degaussing or adjustment is neccessary.
The NTSC color bars option can be vital in adjusting color levels for
proper color display. Assuming your color adapter card CGA, EGA or
whatever is producing the correct colors. You can adjust your color
levels for difficult colors like yellow and get them pretty good while
still keeping the whites white and the grays gray.
The NTSC color bars should look something like:
+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+
| G | Y | C | G | M | R | B |
| r | e | y | r | a | e | l |
| a | l | a | e | g | d | u |
